Wax/ oil for a new shelf

Hi everyone,

I am looking for some advice please. I have a large pine shelf that I plan to put under my wall mounted tv but having difficulty finding the right stain/wax/oil for it! I have oak flooring and doors but don’t want the shelf looking too orange. I’ve got Frenchic browning wax but it’s darker than I would prefer. Can anyone recommend something I could use on my shelf please? A lighter oak or rustic stain would be preferable but not too orange!

thanks 😊

This is the shelf and I have put my key holder on top of it to show the colour I mean.

Not what you asked but I love your floor! Is it real oak and where did you get it (how much if not too nosey)?

Just in case anyone else is looking for a similar wax. I emailed the company who made my key holder shelf and they informed me that they use Liberon Wax Polish Black Bison, in medium oak. Order placed on Amazon and hope it comes out alright!

I used this hard wax oil when i renovated an ercol table and chairs. Darkened the wood but no orange!

Ah great thank you @yumscrummy. I’ve ordered the Liberon one, but if it doesn’t look good I will try that one you suggested next!

I had a big pine bookshelf that I wanted to match with our oak floors and a coffee table, but I was stuck finding the right finish too. Most stains I tried came out either too orange or way too dark. After some trial and error, I discovered Priory wood finishes—their stuff was a total game-changer for me. I ended up using their lighter oak stain, and it gave the wood such a natural look without clashing with the oak tones around it. Bonus: it was super easy to apply, even for someone like me who usually makes a mess of DIY projects. Definitely worth checking out, especially if you want that subtle, rustic vibe without it screaming "orange."
