Heated throw better than an electric blanket

Has anyone tried both and are able to offer an opinion on which is better? I just can't decide which way to go.

Heated throw is much better. So warm and relaxing. The electric blanket I tried was very stiff and wiry in comparison.

My electric blanket lives on my bed and is lovely. In fact in these cold months I can't wait to get in bed of an evening 😀. I'm thinking of getting an electric throw for the sofa though

I found a throw better for sofas , what's it for and what size do you want?

FirstFallopians · 10/11/2023 15:54

A throw is much more versatile.

I keep mine in the living room, but move it to the office when WFH. I put it on the bed on really horrible, cold nights.

DD needs a new electric blanket but then I thought maybe a heated throw might be better as it can be used downstairs.

I love my warm bed but the thought of a warm sofa is tempting too. Wouldn't everyone be fighting over the throw and I’d need to buy one each for everyone? 😂

Horses for courses, electric blanket best in a bed, throw best on a sofa ( user of both of many years duration).

They're different beasts, you need the electric under blanket/mattress topper for bed and an electric throw for the sofa!

MyAnacondaMight · 11/11/2023 10:51

I have electric blankets on the beds and a throw on the back of the sofa. I thought the throw would be something I could move around, but it’s heavy and so never leaves the sofa. Considering a second throw for the office.

I have an electric blanket which does a great job but is quite rough and board, and the plasfic part seems to sit directly under where I lie. I also have a lovely soft heated throw on the sofa which is great for avoiding putting the heating on BUT it has just broken for the second time in a year, so quite annoying and not the most robust.

If it's heavy, is it one of the thick fur ones? I had a look online and there are so many price levels!

Yeah it’s a Dreamland husky, or something like that. One of the least ugly options out there. But heavy.

ChickenPicken · 11/11/2023 19:03

We have a small heating pad (for bad backs) and if I use it on the sofa I find the difference between sitting on it and under it is quite large. Sitting on it much warmer. So if using in bed I would get a normal under one.

They don't last well. This is why I now buy them from Lakeland as they have a three-year "no quibble" guarantee.

Dreamland grey 'velvety soft' one is not at all heavy, OP.

@MyAnacondaMight Thank you, would you buy that particular one again or go for something lighter weight?

Yes I would, mostly because everything else I’ve seen is a bit ugly.

It just changed how I use it - it’s more like having heated sofa seats rather than a heated throw. A warm back rather than a warm lap.

honeyandfizz · 12/11/2023 13:23

My heated throw has changed my life! I feel the cold terribly and find it so miserable and uncomfortable. Bought a heated throw a few weeks back and boy it is a game changer, only putting the actually heating on for a couple of hours a day now and thats so the kids bedrooms warm up.

Strongbeatsskinny · 18/12/2023 22:25

I have both I love the throw for when I’m sat watching tv and I the under blanket is put on ten minutes before I go to bed and switched off automatically after a couple of hours. If I wake up feeling chilly I’ll pop it back on but I can honestly say that they Truly are a game changer this time of year. Both mine are from Dreamland brand and I purchased them from Lakeland.

HomeObsessed · 21/12/2023 10:53

Where are you using it? I have a heated blanket and it's amazing, it has the weight of a blanket rather than an electric blanket. Would highly recommend heated blanket unless it's for your bed in which case for an electric blanket
