How would you dress these windows on a budget?

Just moved house and none of the blinds fit the bathroom and kitchen. Kitchen is the biggest problem; the width is 235cm and the only blinds I can find that wide are made to measure ones that are £££.

I hate it when it's dark with no window covering. I could easily put a curtain pole up and put curtains at the kitchen window, but would that look odd?

The bathroom is more of a conventional size. But I'm reluctant to drill into the tiles so looking for easy fit blinds. Plus I have no idea what colour to go with those tiles. I would love bright colours for both windows.

Any ideas? What would you do?

Do you have access to a sewing machine and have some basic sewing skills? If so I’d make a Roman blind for the kitchen using a Roman blind kit that has all you need in it, or you can buy all the bits you need separately if you prefer. You don’t need much fabric as it’s just flat so it’s quite cost effective.

Personally I wouldn't put anything up at either - they're very nice windows. Trouble with blinds/curtains etc in a kitchen is that they quickly get grimy. If you have to have something there I'd probably just go for a wipeable white Venetian blind.

In the bathroom maybe a light voile that can be hooked to one side?

Thanks both. My sewing skills are zero but my MIL is v good with a sewing machine.... I'm just a bit worried a Roman blind would block out a lot of light?

They are ok windows and nice clean lines, but with the white kitchen cabinets it all feels a bit clinical.

Window film for the bathroom. It’s just a plastic film that goes directly in the glass and comes in either patterns or you can get a flat white. It comes in varying degrees of opaqueness.

the film would work in the kitchen too, but I would guess you want to be able to see out that window.

for that you can put in a tension rod along the top. Then get the curtain hooks that are the circles with the little alligator clips hanging off. For the curtains themselves you just need two panels of fabric you can clip in. You might be able to find oversized tea towels. The easiest thing would be to get some cotton fabric and just hem it. You can even use hem tape and an iron for this, no sewing required, but sewing will increase durability. The nice thing about the alligator clips is it is very easy to take down the panels and throw them in for a wash. I did this once in temporary housing where I didn’t even bother with the hemming and since I wasn’t there long enough to need to wash them, they didn’t really even fray.

In the kitchen, id get a roman blind that sits above the window - so when its open, it is all folded against the wall.

In the bathroom, I'd look at the no drill blinds available on https://www.blinds-2go.co.uk/no-drill-blinds?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw15eqBhBZEiwAbDomEkOPktszqcub56cQczLl4mJnVJYRfVeSuSkOYgbJZo0sI0GxaOpNSRoCatsQAvD_BwE but yes, you will loose some light.

We've not used the no drill blinds, but have some fabulous roller blinds from blinds2go. Just remember to measure twice (or three times) before ordering!
