Best paint for interior woodwork.

can anyone recommend the best paint for interior woodwork - skirting and door frames, etc? It’s new wood so I’ve given it x2 coats of primer. Heading to The Paint Shed soon and want to get it right.

I’m thinking most folk avoid gloss? Yes? So, maybe eggshell? We’re sticking to white.

Really want to get it right (don’t plan on doing this again anytime soon!) so happy to spend a wee bit more to get the best product.

Thank you in advance.

Eggshell is hardy as anything and looks lovely. Definitely go for water based!

Puppylucky · 03/11/2023 20:00

Totally disagree! Eggshell is like painting with milk. It scuffs and chips if you look at it. I'm bitter because I'm in the process of repainting every surface that I had expensively done with satin!

Thank you both for your replies.
@Puppylucky my heart sank when I read your comment! I’ve just bought a 5l pot of eggshell! Argh! Not opened it yet so may return it!

I bought Johnstone's white satinwood from the Paint Shed recently. Lovely finish.

Muckspout · 04/11/2023 10:12

I would like to know too OP.

I have tried so many. They either chip off or go yellow. The one I have on my hall and landing paintwork is awful to clean. I don't want to waste any more money when I redo it.

MyAnacondaMight · 04/11/2023 10:20

Another vote for eggshell.

maldivemoment · 04/11/2023 10:48

Arghhhhh!
@Puppylucky says eggshell is horrific & @MyAnacondaMight recommends it!

@LadyNellCardross votes for satinwood!

😫😫😫😫😫

Any painter & decorators on here? What do you use?

I'm using dulux trade white gloss on skirting, sills, window frames. I am using dulux trade eggshell on panelling throughout hallway.

ZenNudist · 04/11/2023 18:05

My decorator commented I'd got the best and they recommend dulux trade gloss to everyone as its hard-wearing, goes on nicely.

We did a lot of research on this and went with Little Greene Interior Oil Eggshell — beautiful low-sheen finish and hard-wearing.

I'm not in the UK and couldn't get these over here, but a fantastic decorator I follow on Instagram highly recommends Benjamin Moore Scuff X and Tikkurilla Everal. Check out his channel, some great tips there: https://www.instagram.com/liamgentdecorating/?hl=de

I would add that excellent prep (filling, sanding, a good primer like Zinsser B-I-N) is just as important as good paint.

F and b eggshell, in my house, or Johnson's professional satinwood.

maldivemoment · 06/11/2023 13:06

Thank you all.

Think I’m going to return to eggshell & go with Johnston’s Satinwood.

Little Greene or F&B

Dulux colours come out harsh and synthetic.

maldivemoment · 07/11/2023 14:03

Right. Watch this space…

Went to The Paint Shed to return Dulux Diamond Eggshell and swap for Johnston’s Satinwood.
There happened to be a painter & decorator in at the same time. Result! He recommended I stick with the Dulux - says it’s much more hardwearing (we got x2 children) and is better than Johnston’s.

Watch this space…
