I have booked an appointment for someone to quote me a refit on our tiny bathroom (6’4”x5’4”).

The problem is I don’t know what to do with it in terms of taps and tiles, the suite will just be white. I like the black taps/shower etc but I'm worried it will date quickly. The alternative is to just go with something classic and simple but I want something I love, I just don’t know what that is. We are definitely staying here and not planning on moving so it’s not like I need to keep it simple to be able to sell.

Please share any photos of your bathrooms to inspire me. I know I could Google but I don’t know what I’m looking for and want to see real life examples please 😊

Can't post pictures as I'm currently in the planning stages myself.
What helped me (and what the 2 fitters I had round a couple of months ago suggested) was going and looking round bathroom showrooms.
I've got a big pile of brochures and loads of ideas and have pretty much settled what I want.
Having one of the fitters round next week to go through what I want so he can quote.

Soopermum1 · 26/10/2023 20:12

I've been all over Pinterest for a while now. Good for ideas

I went for a Moroccan theme as I love all the tile patterns and the blue and green colours. Kept with chrome fittings but went bold with the sink and tiles. It is a beautiful room now that brings me so much happiness.

What colours do you love? What patterns? What vibe do you want?

In another bathroom I went for a natural theme with limestone floor and pebble tiles in the shower enclosure, and dusty pink tiles over the sink and in the niche. I love it and it's so calming and peaceful.

Loving both of those @overmydeadbody especially the basin.

overmydeadbody · 26/10/2023 20:35

Thank you. The basin brings me so much happiness! 😊

Personally I would go neutral.
White suite, silver taps.
White or cream tiles (large) maybe with an accent border (not mosaic).
You can then accessorise to your heart's content with different coloured towels and accessories.
It's much cheaper and easier to change the towels than it is to change the tiles.

JamMakingWannaBe · 26/10/2023 20:47

What is opposite your bath?
I have white tiles up to dado height and above that I have had (at various times) one colour paint and funky wallpaper with the bath panel painted to match.
Is there an area of your bathroom that you could change to lend itself to "fashion"?

Filterphobia · 26/10/2023 20:57

That is stunning @overmydeadbody thank you for sharing.

@JamMakingWannaBe the wall opposite the bath is currently just tiled floor to ceiling. I could go with half height tiles and possibly paint the top half so the colour could easily be changed. The thing is it’s so small that it gets lots of condensation on the tiles so I would worry that the plaster would just get mouldy

If you like quite modern bathrooms, we went to a super fancy restaurant the other day which had the nicest washrooms I've seen in ages. I'll attach pics. I think the fairly simple white sink etc with the aqua wall tiles and the wood is lovely. I've attached pics (with weird marks on them) as it turned out that my silly daughters did a photoshoot in there 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Pinterest and Instagram are great for inspiration. I'm on the lookout as the bathroom is next on the list for us to redo.
I like black taps too but they are not realistic for us as we are in a very hard water area and only stainless steel will cope. Waterfall taps get limescaled too. I have a neutral bathroom in mind, big greige tiles halfway with maybe a sage green paint on the top half. Cream and bamboo units, good quality wet walls, maybe matte? for the shower for easy cleaning.

Our downstairs loo will be done at the same time, I'm planning more colour here. Navy walls, chandelier light, art work all over.

Definitely avoid black taps etc, oura have been in about a year and are already scratched and you can see the brass underneath

Just got this butchers block that I'm planning to use as a washstand for my Morrocan washbasin... and probably this rolltop shower-bath...Love vintage stuff

Some lovely ideas here! This is ours - we found the perfect vintage table in our local antique centre and paired it with a contemporary basin for the eclectic look we love....

@LibertyLily I love it, great floor.

overmydeadbody · 28/10/2023 15:58

That's amazing @LibertyLily i love your style

EarringsandLipstick · 28/10/2023 16:11

Wow @LibertyLily your bathroom looks as big as at least 2 of my bedrooms combined. I'm envious (and really fab decor)

ZenNudist · 28/10/2023 18:17

I've gone with a greige neutral tile and a decor pattern (all same shade but geometric textured design) in the back of the wall where our walk in shower is. It's a very neutral scheme. My last bathroom was old when we moved in but it lasted another 17 years before forced to change it due to leaking. That was a neutral peachy shade with a little bit of more dated border but nothing too bad and it remained acceptable. I doubt the (lovely but) garish tiles that are currently the fashion will last as long.

I have a very simple walk in shower now rather than a cubicle. Much easier to keep clean. Less movement in the shower tray than the previous one (less chance of leaks).

My bath is j shaped so to miss a corner off and improve space / access to sink.

I have 2 drawer storage below the sink. It's all very well having a beautiful rustic sink but soft close drawers and adequate storage go along way in your average family bathroom. Things get lost at the back if you have shelves.

If you can fit in a wall mounted narrow cupboard that would be good. I just went for a mirrored cabinet with a small shallow cupboard behind it. I didn't get it with electric hook up as I've known too many people struggle to get the right bulbs eventually or just CBA to fix it so it stays broken. A lit mirror could have been nice though.

I put a compact shower unit onto my bath as well as separate shower. I has one originally and find it useful for washing my hair when in the bath and for cleaning the bath.

Mine is very featureless because its all tiled. The trend for a mix of plaster and tiled areas does look good and can be done as neutral but interesting / bit of texture. Maybe invest in a really good extraction fan if you are concerned about damp plaster but like the look. It means you can paint to change the look over time. I just wanted a bathroom to last.

I got "fit and forget" good quality fittings. Get a good, well recommended bathroom fitter and take their advice. You want plugs that are not faffy and won't break, reliable taps (groehe in my case) and as high a quality shower as you can afford. I went mira as my last shower was mira and was easy to replace parts. Sadly the old mira shower was powerful and the new one is not as good.

Worry less about look and more about practicality.

There's some lovely tiles about. Metro tiles are ridiculously popular right now. Obviously they will date but such is life. I actually put some cream textured ones as a small splashback in the downstairs cloakroom. I like the white /cream/ rustic textured ones to and my bathroom fitter said very popular right now. The teal / green shade is especially popular and ubiquitous right now but I think its going to date more than a neutral scheme.

Try porcelain superstore for tiles. They had some lovely ones. The prices were good. They send beautifully packaged whole tile samples

Avoid gold taps or black taps. The colour wears off. If you don't mind replacing them after 5 years that's OK. Some people like the look (it looks great at first but once worn looks tired and tacky).

Long post. Hope this helps!

EverybodyJumpsuit · 29/10/2023 19:52

We went the opposite of neutral and love it. Tiny bathroom felt like an opportunity for bling and big wallpaper. I used photoshop to put together elevations of each wall to make sure it would all fit and add up style wise. Not expensive, but really fun to be in!
when I started putting this together I just went to Pinterest and searched very broad terms ‘blue bathroom’ ‘green bathroom’ ‘pink bathroom’ etc and pinned everything that made me happy. Then picked my top ten images, looked at what they had in common and found in budget versions of those items.

Thank you @duchiebun @overmydeadbody and @EarringsandLipstick!

@EarringsandLipstick it was originally a bedroom (converted to a bathroom long before we bought the house) which is why it's so big. Back then you'd have had to walk through bedroom two to access bedroom three....and the only facilities were outside 😉

Love your wallpaper @EverybodyJumpsuit - it's amazing!
