Blinds - blocking the light from the sides

I would like to stop the light leakage. I've read around and seen various solutions, but would appreciate opinions and advice from those who have experience.

I attach three pics, how it looks in the dark, the blind fully down and the blind fully up so you can see where it's hung within the recess.

Thank you

You will always get some light leakage unless you use something like Bloc blinds which run in a channel each side.

Either that or double up and add curtains…or an eye mask for sleeping!

We have these in the kids’ rooms which work well. (We used command strips instead of the velcro they sell as I think it’s stronger)

Thank you. Are they easy to put up and take down every day? My UPVC windows are quite new and I don't want to stick things on it which will be hard to remove or leave a residue.

The fabric part is easy to take down, although we tend to roll them half way and use their magnetic clips to hold them there.

However, the velcro strips around the frame are there all the time, until you decide you don’t want the blinds any more. So may not be suitable for you. I’ve removed similar strips in the past and found they came off pretty easily and without residue if I blasted with a hairdryer as I went along.

We don’t have velcro strips all the way round, just 2 short strips making an L in each corner iyswim. The top ones are hidden by the roman blind. But the bottom ones are visible when the roman is up.

We have a blackout blind hung inside the window recess, and then blackout curtains hung on the outside of the recess and extending past the outer edges of the window. I'd say it blocks out pretty much all the light.

Thanks all. I have ended up getting a cut-to-fit blind that I will sucker on to the window/glass. It wasn't too pricey so I'll see how I get on.
