White paint that is actually white

Can anyone recommend a white paint for a north facing bedroom with smallish windows.

I have looked at the soft white paints and they lie. They are pastel colours not white. I have scoured TikTok and you tube and Pinterest and all the usual paint companies but can’t find anything

About 10 years ago I had a flat in a Victorian conversion
The people who bought and renovated the top floor flat did up the landing as well

They painted a single wall of the landing in the whitest paint I have ever seen. It glowed in the predominantly dark panelled landing

I always wanted to find out what that paint was but our paths never crossed

Any one know of a white paint that glows

Dulux Trade Brilliant White. I needed sunglasses decorating a house with it. Something a notch less likely to cause snow blindness are F&B All White or, a bit more gentle, F&B Wevet.

Wellwellwellwhatsallthisthen · 18/10/2023 07:50

Also Dulux Trade Pure Brilliant White. I have it in most rooms in my house, and in the north-facing room, it's still white. I love it.

When you say you already have one wall painted in pure brilliant white, what colour are the other walls? Because they will affect the PBW wall...

Memberofstaff · 18/10/2023 07:54

All the whites you've looked at have a hint of a different colour in them, so are not pure white

Pure brilliant white, give it 2 or even 3 coats for maximum effect

NellyBarney · 18/10/2023 20:10

If ot's drained maybe it just got dirty over time. Paint all walls the same colour, different whites next to each other most often look like a bad clash. The trade version of Dulux Pure Brilliant White is the Trade Brillian White Vinyl Matt. It even in a North facing room looks snow white. If you want to reflect light, you could use a high sheen paint, like a gloss or even a lacquer. It's much harder to apply though without any brushstrokes showing than emulsion.

NellyBarney · 18/10/2023 20:15

Just realised Dulux does do a gloss emulsion of Pure Brilliant White. That would reflect most light. High sheen paints have fallen out of fashion in recent years, though, and they do highlight any imperfections in the plaster.

MaggieFS · 18/10/2023 22:08

What finish did the Dulux you used have? They do a soft sheen which is fantastic, but hard to find. We ordered it online.

I had Dulux Diamond Matt White in a previous property. It was very white and stayed white.

LonelyFlans · 18/10/2023 22:21

You want absolute white
here

TattiePants · 18/10/2023 23:16

I have F&B’s All White in my west facing lounge and above the dado in the hall, stairs and landing and Little Greene’s Loft White in my east facing downstairs loo. Both are true white but without the harshness of brilliant white.

Is the vinyl matt different feom Dulux silk for walls?

Itsjustmeee · 19/10/2023 00:25

I’ve just had my hallway painted in Duluxe Brilliant white silk this week
Took 3-4 coats as it was previously shitty chilli con carne brown

its that bright my hallway sensor lights that usually go on automatically when it gets dark didn’t go on till much later tonight 😂😂

It got it from B&Q two huge tins for 45 quid this week

snygghygge · 19/10/2023 01:23

You need Little Greene's Loft White. It is a wonderful brilliant white with neutral undertones. I've just painted the long corridor in my converted flat and it is so white it almost glows in the dark

its only been up a few weeks.

I have the Pure brilliant white in the hall way. That looks great.(Maybe because whilst it only has a small window in the door, it is a south facing window.) But painting the bedroom wall, it just doesn’t look like the same paint and although the room has more windows than the hall, it is north facing and the light just isn’t the same.
This bedroom is on the ground floor in what was the garage and has a high window that lets light in but you can’t actually see out of and one slightly lower window.

The front definitely gets all the sun

@BarbDwyerHair Yes, it has a higher sheen level. Vinyl matt is the lowest, so won't look shiny but a bit chalky, but it's the currentlymost 'fashionable' look. The gloss emulsion is most shiny. Silk is in the middle, it's what paint makers often describe as 'satin'.

Spookymormonhelldream · 19/10/2023 09:11

Loft White by Little Greene. Pure chalky white.

MonikerBing · 19/10/2023 09:21

I second Loft White by Little Greene. I've painted my whole house in this (it faces SW with back rooms facing NE). Agree it's less harsh than brilliant white but is pure white.

KirstenBlest · 20/10/2023 10:18

Use trade pure white matt. It will look slightly greyish in a north facing room.

Frasa · 01/11/2023 16:41

I've been trying to pick white for kitchen cabinets in a room that can be quite dark. The white that has worked in my room and shown no undertone is Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace.

Flossflower · 01/11/2023 17:33

Have you put on a sufficient number of coats. Trade paint has more pigment in it so might be better. I have just painted a north facing room in Dulux trade Matt pure brilliant white. It is very white. I do have large windows though. I actually prefer the white paint in my kitchen as it was kitchen paint and more chalky.
The paint might also be reflecting the jasmine white on the other walls. Any paint would look extra white against dark panelling.
