So , I’ve totally left my comfort zone (forever white and neutral ) and wallpapered the chimney breast in this paper.
I actually love the colours and pattern but I’m really not sure …shall I commit fully and wallpaper the other walls , maybe painting the alcoves or shall I leave it as an accent wall and go neutral on the others. ??

please help if you can and please don’t tell me you hate my paper 😂 I can’t change it…probably for the next 10 years if dh has anything to do with it.

Could you find a green paint to watch the leaves on the wallpaper . Personally I wouldn't go for the wallpaper for all over as it might tip it into looking a little bedroomy.
A couple of cushions to match the wallpaper would also look lovely.

SleepingStandingUp · 13/10/2023 09:51

I was going to say I like the grey with it but realised up close or needs to be more green. So if probably do the two adjacent rooms a green to match and then the rest of the walls lighter / white

Forestdweller11 · 13/10/2023 09:54

I'd do green
But the rose pink might be nice as well!

lndnbrdge91 · 13/10/2023 09:55

I would say green also, and it seems like you prefer more muted palettes - I think a deep, dark green like the darkest in the wallpaper would look amazing. And then pick out some pink in cushions/accessories. If you want lighter colours then I think a sage/lighter green would also work well on the walls next to the wallpaper.

It's lovely wallpaper but I'd use as a feature not all over. And it needs a soft colour with it so it's the star of the show. Stick to the chimney breast, I'd go plaster pink on the alcove walls and then a really soft sage green on the rest.

I work in interiors, fwiw.

eandz13 · 13/10/2023 10:02

I'd paper the alcoves too and paint the rest of the room a dusty pink. The alcoves thing is just a total personal preference though, I don't feel like it looks 'finished' when just the chimney breast is papered.

That sounds lovely.
You still have a fantastic statement from your wallpaper but not ovewhemed by it. Sage is very contemporary colour and looks fabulous

I also think that would look lovely. And am another one who loves the wallpaper though it’s completely different to my usual style!

@SkyFullofStars1975 sounds nice , do you have any suggestions for a sage green ? I’ve used farrow and ball paint in this house so far so prefer that but any suggestions appreciated .

We use a lot of Zoffany paint at work (their Elite Emulsion is amazing) but I've just looked on Farrow and Ball... I'd try testers of Teresa's green or Breakfast room green for the sage, and either Calamine or Cinder Rose on the alcove as you've got 2 different pinks to blend with in the wallpaper.

It'll depend on your lighting as to what works best. You could introduce an accent like a really deep green on the skirting boards if you're brave enough (like the Calke Green or Beverly).

Uncooperativefingers · 13/10/2023 10:35

Personally, I'd probably wallpaper the other wall in the photo (ie the one behind the sofa) and paint the alcoves either a pale/dark green or pale plaster-like pink depending on your taste.

That would stop it looking so "feature mantlepiece" without overwhelming the room.

If that's not an option, my vote would be for papering the alcoves as well

Elasticatedwaist · 13/10/2023 10:45

@SkyFullofStars1975 the room is north facing.

Paint the alcoves a colour from the wallpaper (green?pink?) then the rest of the room a contrast (cream?).

I've recently started being true to myself and decorating in bright colours. Love it. DH tolerates it 😂

KickAssAngel · 13/10/2023 11:06

I also think that sage green would be great, although in a North facing room the idea of painting the associates like that and then the rest of the room cream is good.

Where is the wallpaper from? My Mum would love it.

Elasticatedwaist · 13/10/2023 11:31

@KickAssAngel it’s Laura Ashley.
@wellthatwentwelldinnit I'm ignoring all trends this time and just picking what I instinctively like. I think I’ve worried in the past that other people will think it hideous or it’s somehow ‘wrong’ i just want it to ‘feel’ good this time 😊

I LOVE your wallpaper! What brand is it? It's so pretty! I would go for sage either side (I love sage)

floppybit · 13/10/2023 12:24

A soft sage green like the lighter shade in the leaf

Agree with this ^^.

And it's a lovely choice as an accent wall.

PosteriorPosterity · 13/10/2023 12:29

I’d go green, perhaps Lichen in F&B but hard to tell which would be best without seeing it in person.

If you prefer Pink, Setting Plaster is nice but I’ve just repainted a room I did initially in pink as it was a bit too much.

I’d paper the alcoves too and just paint the other walls.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 13/10/2023 12:30

A couple of house plants would look nice with it as well. Should end up a nice calm inviting room.

Elasticatedwaist · 13/10/2023 13:38

@bluebellsanddaisies23 its Laura Ashley 🙂

Absolutely love that paper. I agree about using a sage green on the other walls.

JaninaDuszejko · 13/10/2023 15:35

I hate feature walls, if you love the paper go for it.

I'd do all the walls with it but then have very minimalist furniture and accessories and let the wallpaper shine. Ceiling and woodwork painted a white that matches the background of the wallpaper. Like Melanie Lissack's sitting room.
