Echoey dining room/kitchen - high ceilings

We have a victorian terrace and have opened up between the kitchen and dinning room so it is an L shape. We have very high ceilings in the dinning room area. We lowered it a little in the kitchen area so we could have ceiling lights.

It is really echoey and I wondered if anyone else had this problem and what to do.

The hard flooring runs from the front door, into the dining room and then into the kitchen so dining room would look weird with carpet.
It isn't big enough really to add a sofa and cushions as well as the dining table.

Any thoughts on what to do please?

Rugs with underlay, blinds plus curtains, upholstered dining chairs ...

Also throws & cushions you need fabric/texture to absorb the sounds.

Big rug, thick curtains, deep upholstery on the chairs. Putting on my hard hat here - tablecloths! Leave it on at all times as you need it to absorb the sound. You can also get acoustic panels (look like large white canvas panels) which you suspend a few inches from the ceiling to capture sound. They really work. Also have canvas prints / paintings (no frames) on the walls as they too will catch sound.

What's wrong with tablecloths?? 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Ameanstreakamilewide - nothing is wrong with tablecloths but I've noted that they are seen as 'old fashioned ' by many.

Ok. I've got a tablecloth on my dinner table, and i was worried if it was a bit naff!
