Mattress on a tight budget

Can anyone recommend a good mattress on a tight budget? My back is playing up and I’m sure it’s down to my mattress but money is tight 😬, I can’t really afford a Emma or similar but I need something that’s good on my back (not hard).

Emma mattresses are excellent and they usually have a big discount code available, plus you can pay in instalments - that's what I did to make it affordable

Ikea have a good range, and you can go into the store and lie on them too.
We found our guest bed mattress this way.

We have Otty (similar to Emma) and paid for them in instalments, as it works out cheaper than replacing every few years (and paying for osteopath!). Apologies if you are not in a financial position to do this

Oh please, I got one of Emma's cooling mattresses and it was like sleeping on a rock. The customer service was appalling from beginning to end. It took weeks for the thing not to stink. The only good thing about it was the guarantee so you can get shot of it.

If your back hurts op, you'd be better off going in a store and trying them out than gamble with an online purchase.

I second ikea!

Lovemusic82 · 19/09/2023 12:07

I’m miles away from ikea and they want to charge £50 for delivery 😭.

My mum bought an Emma and says it’s awful.

I bought a John Lewis rolled foam mattress and like it. It was smelly for a few weeks. Apparently it's a thing with rolled mattresses.

We got one from habitat very happy (100 quid including delivery) - also worth considering adding a memory foam topper if you want to adjust the firmness in either direction 🙃

I got an argos hybrid which is perfect for me - sprung underneath with a memory foam top so it's fairly firm but also comfortable. All my adult life I have had periodic bouts of low back pain and sciatica due to my job and am also a restless sleeper (so I didn't want to go full memory foam) and things are much better with this mattress. I've had it for around three years. They bring it into your room for you and no fucking about unrolling and dealing with packaging etc. Also take the old one away.

Presil · 19/09/2023 23:49

It was also significantly cheaper than an Emma!

I got mine from DFS and pay £10 a month

AnotherDelphinium · 20/09/2023 01:07

I highly recommend going to Dreams, they’ve got a test mattress that you answer questions and lay on and it comes up with some recommendations.

They do payment plans and my current mattress is superb. I’ve tried Emma, Simba and Dreamcloud before, and I wasn’t impressed with any of them.

My sister's guest room is Ikea and it's incredibly comfortable.

I bought a Shires sprung memory foam mattress, it is like sleeping on a cloud, an equivalent one now is around £450, I got mine from Mattressman.co.uk.
