How to make the bathroom less prison-y

Hello,
Please help!
I've got a miserable bathroom: no windows and very small. The main light in the middle is stark. I thought painting the white walls a blue would make it less awful but actually it made it worse and now looks like a hospital toilet. I've got a limited budget so can't redo the entire room and I don't know how to resolve the bathroom. The right side of the bathroom is dark and shadowy. The left side is bright like the Starbucks toilets.
If anyone has any suggestions with colour, lighting etc , please let me know. And flooring too since currently it is commercial safety flooring. I know mirrors and pictures will help but think it will still have this oppressive clinical feel.
Thank you in advance xxx

Echo others with Sage paint. I'd fit tongue and groove to the bottom half of the room and paint it sage, with a cream to the top half. A big mirror and some battery operated gold wall sconce lights from Amazon. The flooring looks fine, a fluffy bath mat to break it up. Some shelves above the loo with pictures/ plants / candles.

This is what I had in mind.

WildCherryBlossom - I love them, especially the last on as that room likes it doesn't have windows and the owners did a good job of masking that. I'm definitely open to orange.

Goldmember - I love that too. My only issue is that a lot of my rooms are green, including my son's bedroom which is next door. I keep gravitating towards green though.

I can't believe no one has suggested adding razor blades! Grin

It's going to be hard to cover a colour that strong. I would put a colourwash over it (another coat but dilute enough that the colour underneath will still show through). You can play with the effects and mix colours. Experiment on a spare bit of plasterboard until you get to something you like.

We’ve actually just done our downstairs toilet in these colours. This pics are mid transformation, I’ve added blue toilets and rug since. Also going to add some of our holiday photo tiles to the plain wall.
The tiles are just stickers from Amazon. I plan to pick up some more bits each time we go on holiday that add to the display.

I've just done my bathroom, went for this green.

The flooring wasn't too expensive and was worth it as it looks so much better.

Tiles behind the sink were a couple of quid in Wickes and mirror was £7 from a reuse place.

That is gorgeous @Girliefriendlikespuppies (and so is your cat!). But it does have a big window and I think OPs challenge is different.

I would go neutrals. Colour is just going to make the white goods stand out and they aren’t the best quality. Paint everything - walls, skirting, ceiling all in the same colour. Then have fun with colour of contents - bath mat, curtain, mirror, cabinet, art, plant pot etc
