Pop-up/elevate a toddler floor bed for guests

We have a small double mattress on the floor (or a "Montessori toddler bed"). It's easier for our two year old to get in and out of safely.

We occasionally have guests stay who are in their 60s. They would find it hard to get up from a floor bed. Guests used to sleep in this mattress on a divan bed frame. When they visit, we thought we could move our toddler to a temporary bed to free up the double mattress.

For when they stay next, we would like a solution that would elevate the mattress. Any ideas of what could work?

I considered a

  1. folding frame but most come with folding mattresses which we don't need and make the bed frame bulky
  2. a frame a bit like a trundle bed with legs that tuck under. This could "live" under the mattress. However, trundle beds are always single beds and rarely sold individually (unless I'm using the wrong search terms)
  3. telescopic legs (don't think this exists)

We got low bed frames for our kids and regretted it as it means no storage space and difficult for older people to sleep on. We got furniture raisers to use when we needed the bed to be higher. You can get better looking ones or ugly cheap ones that do the job fine. I'll try to post links

This is a good idea, how stable are the raisers? As you mention they would be to adjust a toddler bed to an adult bed for older people. They would be guests so not used to the set up, so I really would want it to be unstable and collapse on them.

Thanks for the input

They seem very sturdy. The bed is in the corner of the room which also limits movement. You do need to make sure they're aligned squarely.

Having said all that, if we were to choose again, I'd just go for a standard height bed frame and really not worry too much about a child falling out of a bed.

We currently have a standard height bed and it's the potential falling we are worried about. Are there any modification ideas you would have to reduce the chance of this happening? Like steps or railings? Did you teach your child?

Get a removable bed guard? Like a railing?

What do you have under the mattress at the moment, just the slats?
You could buy a second hand wooden bed and chop the legs down!
I would set the room up with what works for your toddler and visitors just have to make do.

Put a pool noodle under the sheet? Acts as a bed guard.
