Where to get thick cushion inserts

I doubt this is going to get any answers but I’ll give it a go.

I want some decent thickness cushion inserts and the ones I’ve seen all look thin and cheap. Has anyone got recommendations of where to buy thick ones.

Also do you buy inserts the same size as the cushion? I’ve seen online it say to buy slightly bigger and also slightly smaller.

Hi @Colourfulponderings
I've seen some in Dunelm, you can check their selection online too x

Thanks you., I did look at theirs but I was worried they were a bit flimsy.

I’ve bought some cushion covers that I would never normally spend that amount on and don’t want to do them a disservice with flaccid inserts.

I bought insets from dunelm in a size up, lovely plump cushions. Also bought duck feather ones from dunelm, again size up, really happy with them.

Thanks @Hohofortherobbers that reassured me.

I've got feather cushion insert from Dunelm and they've been great. Very full. Size up slightly.

The plumpness comes from feather (rather than fibre) and a cushion pad 1cm larger than the cover to give a slightly overstuffed look. Dunelm, John Lewis, and Soak and Sleep all do nice plump feather cushion pads.

I always like to buy a slightly bigger pad, to make them look fuller. They will feel harder, though, that way. For feather pads, Dunelm is very good for the cheap price tag. If you are mainly after a decorative look, get the large polyester 50x50 pads from IKEA and put them into their (or any) 40x40 covers. They'll look perfectly plumb and will never go out of shape, but if you put your head on it it's like sleeping on concrete.

I have both John Lewis and Dunelm feather cushion pads and would 'plump' for Dunelm every time.
Their feather pads are sized 2cm larger to take account of the extra needed to fill the corners of a cushion cover - so if your cover is 50cm square buy Dunelm's 52 x 52cm pad. Dunelm's ones are a bit cheaper too.

(NB - synthetic cushion pads go flat very quickly IMO.)

Be aware that feather filled cushions will molt in time and the feathers come through the cushion covers. I have some quality cushions from J Lewis and every few years I have needed to replace the feather pads because the feathers eventually work their way through the fabric.

Polyester is an option but I've yet to find any that are thick.

Agree with the suggestions for feather pads from John Lewis and Dunelm. I bought some from Dusk earlier this year which were very good value in the sale and they were excellent.

Dunelm ones are terrible, but anyway I got X2 of the cheapest hollow fibre ones and together double stuffing one case feels really good and supportive and plump. Better than feather as when you lean on feather it turns to a pancake.
