Not the best when it comes to decorating and am half way through painting as you can tell!! 🤣 but we are having blinds, and curtains but the curtains.. where would you have them drop too?? The window ledge half way between the window ledge and floor or the floor ? 🤷🏻‍♀️

may be a silly question but im curious

To the floor. ALWAYS to the floor.

Cotswoldbee · 29/08/2023 13:45

We would take them to the floor but I know some don't.

HarrietJet · 29/08/2023 21:03

Floor length.

FindingMeno · 29/08/2023 21:05

Floor, definitely.

cruffinsmuffin · 29/08/2023 21:09

Floor always!! Looks more expensive and polished. Curtains ending halfway up the wall never hang as nicely or look as good.

CyberCritical · 29/08/2023 21:09

To the floor unless there's a radiator under the window (I know there's not on these windows, but just generally). You don't want the heat from a radiator blocked by curtains.

SidekickSylvia · 29/08/2023 21:09

Floor, especially as there's no radiator so you won't be blocking any heat.

doroda · 29/08/2023 21:09

The floor.

WeWereInParis · 29/08/2023 21:10

Given there's no radiator under the window, I'd say floor length.

Chasingsquirrels · 29/08/2023 21:11

Surely it depends whether you are putting anything under the window.

Personally I think floor length curtains look ridiculous unless the window is very low, but I definitely appear to be in a minority 🤣.

peasandpetals · 29/08/2023 21:15

Floor

Helenahandkart · 29/08/2023 21:15

My grandmother told me that you should always get floor length curtains so that you can take them with you when you move. Sill length are unlikely to fit your next place. She was a forces wife and moved regularly, so take this advice with a pinch of salt if you’re planning on staying put for a long time.

AliMonkey · 29/08/2023 21:19

I disagree with nearly all the PP.

I'd personally have them drop to just below the window ledge (so there's a bit of margin if eg you get them cleaned and they shrink at some point). I know that makes them not quite as good at keeping out the cold, but just prefer that look when they are open as to the floor looks like you couldn't be bothered to get them the right length, plus short blind / long curtain looks mismatched. Shorter also cheaper and less in the way when hoovering. Also have to be slightly too long initially so you don't risk too much shrinkage when they are cleaned. (Can you tell we've had an issue with shrinking curtains at dry cleaners?!)

Ours are all like that (except where we have patio doors) but then many are from necessity, with most rooms having radiators under the windows and a couple of bay windows (so curtains sit inside the window bit rather than outside).

martinisforeveryone · 29/08/2023 21:27

Sill length insulating blind and always floor length curtains regardless of radiator.
Ours have pencil pleat heading tape which has three hook positions. Measure to the bottom row, so should they shrink a bit when cleaned, you can rehang on a different one.

Yup.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 29/08/2023 21:29

I'm of the opinion that curtains should always drop to the floor.

LibertyLily · 29/08/2023 21:32

Always to the floor imho.

I think that does look like quite a low window

Raggammuffin · 29/08/2023 21:42

"Always to the floor" x 20 geez!! it's not a stately home. It's a normal bedroom in a terrace/semi (?)

I live in this kind of house @User7477 and although curtains are to the floor in sitting room, in the bedrooms we need the space to be able to put shelves, bench, bed or units under the window sill.
So do what works.

Yep, that one does.
But still room for a low unit rather than just a couple of inches off the floor.

JanesBlond · 29/08/2023 21:47

I strongly disagree with PPs that curtains should always go to the floor, but based on your picture I do think the low positioning of the window means floor length would look best here. Unless you need to put some furniture up against it, in which case sill length would be more practical and also look completely fine!

It's the living room on 1st floor, think I'm going to go with the floor length! 🤣

Phew! Floor - always. Without exception.

Look at a few bedrooms in any house on Rightmove and you'll soon see with fresh eyes why not to choose short curtains.
