Where should I start searching for a sofa for our new house? I have a soon to be toddler and I'm working on the assumption it might get wrecked and we'll need a new one eventually so don't plan to spend too much. Where would you look for resonably priced sofas that are actualy comfortable? We brought a cheap one online without trying it for our current rental house and it's been so uncomfortble and don't want to repeat the same mistake again.

I would head to DFS

Big range, try them out, I had good service from them.

People find different sofas comfortable, like mattresses, it's a personal thing. It would be best to try it out. Fwiw, I'm always been happy enough with IKEA. I also like sofasofa, but my husband finds them really uncomfortable. Dusk makes pretty cheaply made sofas at low costs, but I do find them the most comfortable ones at low price point (compared to Made.com, IKEA, Swoon)

IKEA sofas. Affordable and washable covers.

There's hardly anywhere to try any now. The big thing is to work out what makes one comfortable for you - for me, I know I like the seat to be deep (60cm +) and too many don't have deep enough seats. Once I know what is not deep enough, I can discount loads just on that basis.

I’d buy the beat you can afford in a sale. We’ve had M&S abbey sofas for years (bought in 2011 and again in 2021, for different rooms, all going strong) but I waited until they did 40% off. I’ve seen 30% off since then.

I like the back to be quite high, so I just look at the height of sofas all the time and abbey is quite high (without looking like a recliner). I don’t like low sofas at all. So if I were you I’d work out what I like and then google like mad to find similar ones that you can sit on before you buy.

IKEA Ektorp.

We bought two 16 years ago just before DD1 was born. You can take the covers off and wash them.

We've just replaced one of them with a very expensive leather sofa now that the kids are old enough not to scribble on, bounce on, vomit up milk on, wee on, etc etc the furniture.
