Chest of drawers

Help me please before I drive myself mad.

I'm looking for a nice quality chest of drawers for my son's bedroom. I'm looking for something which seems to fall between two sizes. Ideally it would be about 125 high and 110 wide but can flex on those dimensions a bit.

I'd like wood (painted is fine) not MDF (his IKEA drawers are useless and the bottoms are falling out of the drawers which are like cardboard). Happy to spend £500ish, definitely rather not spend £1k

I've looked at Cotswold, John Lewis, M&S, Oak Furnitureland, Next, Dunelm. Would rather not buy from Wayfair as I want something reliable.

Where am I missing? If it makes a difference his room is an attic room and about to be pained F&B Hague Blue and has light creamy coloured fitted cupboards.

I should add I'd love to find something antique but a) not sure what era to look for and b) slightly worried about getting something bulky up to an attic

Have you looked at second hand shops and auction houses? Good solid wood furniture never holds it value surprisingly and you might pick up something cheap. Of course you might have to sand down/varnish.

Oh nvm, didn't see the second post. Sorry.

Our hospice shop and British heart foundation have a lot of solid furniture. It's worth sticking your nose in. If you think it looks a bit old fashioned , a coat of paint or stain and new knobs makes all the difference.

I've bought similar to this from Argos and then painted them with this

Forgot to say this was in a cottage where we were worried about getting them up a very narrow staircase
However a previous posters have said charity shops that sell furniture have a wealth of treasure!

A toy bin filled to the rim and some clothes I wore briefly that I figured I'd wear again before washing. 🤷‍♀️

Edited to say, Oops. Somehow post ended up on wrong thread. 🤷‍♀️

I have loads of Scumble Goisie drawers. They can become hard to open though, as the wood can expand when it rains. Can of course be sanded/planned. But you can paint them easily yourself in a colour to match/complement your sons room. My son has all his furniture from Scumble Goosie and they last well. My daughter has an antique Georgoan/Regency chest of drawers and while gorgeous looking, antique drawers do smell musty (it's OK with lavender bags, but that might not be so vool for a boy).
