Drew Pritchard Fairlawn Sofa

I’ve got my eye on this but can’t find any reviews. I’ve tried one out in store, and was happy with it. But are there any Fairlawn owners out there who can vouch for how it stands up to normal use?! I don’t want to be constantly plumping up the seat cushion because it’s gone flat after 20 minutes! It’s fibre filled and no option to get foam and fibre as far as I can see.

Fairlawn 4 Seater Sofa - Barker & Stonehouse (barkerandstonehouse.co.uk)
Foam filled back.
Foam and fibre cushions.
No reviews.

The smaller sofas have different filling.
I like that they are made from hardwood.

That’s true! I tend to sit sideways on (little legs!) so like to have a decent thickness of arm to lean against without feeling like I have a block of wood in my back. The Fairlawn seemed to fit the bill. I suppose I could have the cushions refilled if they did go flat but that adds to the cost of an already expensive sofa!

I might see if there’s an alternative to the Tetrad arm wise. Back to the drawing board!

I’m just seeing fibre filled seat cushions? 🤔 No foam? The chap in the store said it was fibre only. I had a sofa before that sagged and it was awful. I just don’t want to make an expensive mistake!

The foam is in the back. Foam generally doesn't get lumpy.
I think it looks like a decent quality frame, which is what sells it to me. If the frame is good, you can get it re-upholstered when the time comes.

What I would do if I needed a new sofa is buy a good quality old one, probably antique, and get it re-upholstered. A mid-century decent brand would probably be as cheap as chips, but the re-upholstering won't be cheap.

I couldn't find any reviews either. I'd ask the retailer for an image of a cross section of the seat cushion and one of the pad.

The springs are zig zag ones. I'd ask what weight will they tolerate.
If you have heavier family members (18 st +) they might not stay springy for long.

Thank you. That’s really helpful. 😊 Yes I might go back to the store and unzip the cushion and have a look! They only had a loveseat on display whereas I need two 3 seaters. The seat cushion is one big cushion hence my worry. The shape is lovely though. I might just have to go for it, find a good upholsterer and get the seat refilled!

We’re all lightweights in this family so no problems there!

Good. Imagine how bad it feels when you see a tall obese relative plonk his weight on a much-prized chair.

FayCarew · 03/08/2023 21:51

@AquaTofana , it is an expensive sofa, but I'd imagine it will be well made, and repairable.
If you wanted cheap, you could get an Ikea one. They're fine, but they are basically chipboard and foam IME.
I had a DFS sofa and that was chipboard inside with foam, and it had fibre cushions. It was comfortable but it needed recovering, and it wasn't worth the cost.

AquaTofana · 03/08/2023 21:57

I had a VERY good look and feel around it (much to my daughter’s embarrassment) and was pretty happy with it. And I’m hard to please! At the end of the day if it needs a new seat cushion, and that’s all that’s wrong with it, it’s fixable isn’t it? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes. I'm very fussy and it gets my approval. Yes, it's a lot of money but it's a one-off, and a crappy sofa would ruin the look of a room, even though you wouldn't be looking at it when you sat on it.

I really don't like 'trendy' sofas and never got the L-shaped sofa look. They might have suited other people.
