Replacement for ripped roller blind super expensive

We had a small tear in our day and night roller blind which has now become a full rip across the width. The company said they can't repair it with replacement material and will need to replace the whole thing. But its super expensive! And seems like a waste.
Aren't we supposed to be fixing things nowadays instead of throwing them away! Should with just go with it or is there a way we could fix it ourselves?

Of course it's fixable. If you're not handy have you got a local independent curtain and blinds shop, they'll do it for not much. Or a seamstress?

We haven't got a curtain shop nearby but aaah yes a seamstress, I never thought about that, I do actually know someone local. Thanks!

Try pulling out the blind to see how much extra material there is. We have a blind that was ripped near the bottom and I found I could take the roller down, cut the fabric above the rip, glue the fabric over the wooden baton that acts as a weight at the bottom of the blind and then rehang it without the blind looking short. There is so much extra fabric I could probably do it another four or five times before I ran out of fabric.

@LuluLouise if you're able to post a picture we can maybe come up with some ideas for you?

I totally recovered an old roller blind many years ago using fabric glue to attach the material I preferred, so no sewing required!!

Perhaps you could do something similar using a strip of fabric to cover the tear?

Yes, I fixed another blind in a similar way. I bought a cheap blind from IKEA and took it apart to re-use the fabric which I then cut to size and fitted to the old roller. The hardest part of that was making sure the end that was glued to the roller was completely straight - if it is at all squint you see it when the blind is wound up.

Thanks both and please see photos, best I can do I'm afraid, its difficult to show the rip but I've temporarily selotaped it, looks awful I know but better than it was, until I get it sorted. Its a common problem with the day night blinds apparently 🙁

Sorry, I hadn't appreciated how different the day and night blinds are. They look lovely but a little more difficult to fix.

@spiderplantparty yes its looking like we'll have to replace the entire thing, which is quite annoying really, you would think being so flimsy they would design them to be easy to replace. Aah well, it was worth a try. The kids will be under orders to be more gentle with the new one 🙍

@LuluLouise

Just had a flash of inspiration (if it's not too late)

Grab some fairly "dense" lace, some fabric glue and grease proof paper, (gp to prevent sticking).

Gp paper between the layers of the blind, then apply a layer of lace with glue to the back of the blind and allow to dry. Repeat on the front of the blind.

Won't be perfect aesthetically but would work?
