Does this sofabed exist?

DP and I are expecting our second baby and we're going to have to turn our spare room into a nursery. So we want to get a really good sofabed so we can use our current living room as a guest room. Can anyone recommend one that does all of the following:

  • Comfortable as a 3-seater sofa and as a bed
  • Looks nice (we like fairly clean lines/mid century style rather than big puffy furniture)
  • storage space for bedding
  • easy to convert
  • mattress is hidden inside the frame so that it can be stored with the clean sheets already on
  • ideally sold in a shop or showroom where we can actually go and see/try it before buying

Would be really grateful for any suggestions!

IKEA used to not sure if it still does 🧐

Be aware nearly all the pull out sprung ones are teeny tiny doubles.

Yes they do the 3 seater corner one with storage.

I've never seen a sofa bed with storage, have you considered the Ikea hemnes day bed it has three drawers and converts to a double. Roaring trade on Facebook marketplace as v popular

Also this one has a decent bed size no roll together and storage.

Thanks for the replies! @RandomMess that ikea one actually looks really good. I have considered the Hemnes day bed but for the nursery for nights when we end up sleeping in there! I don't find them that comfy as an actual sofa though.

@applespearsbears I keep getting ads popping up for the Cocoon ones that seem to have a massive storage space but the sofa seat forms part of the mattress so you can't leave the sheets on (that might end up being the aspect we compromise on).

@ZacharinaQuack Hi, OP, we are looking for something similar. We were looking at Cocoon website today. Have you found an ideal one in the end. I got an impression that most of the sofa beds are on the firm side - not cosy and comfortable, as they have to be firm to be slept on...

We have the Swyft model 4. It doesn't have enough storage room for bedding but it came with a mattress topper which is stored inside the couch. They are being fly now and selling the topper separately when it used to ship with the couch.

We like it. It's comfortable as both a couch and a bed and a nice simple style. Simple to pull down into a bed and is a sprung mattress in double bed size.

@Return2thebasic not yet I'm afraid - we slightly ran out of time for pre-baby prep so we're just doing without a guest space for now (which is ideal as they all have to stay elsewhere!). I don't mind firm for a sofa, it was more the depth and shape that make daybeds less comfy for me, but I think we are still thinking along the lines of those IKEA ones where the mattress is not part of the sofa itself, but folded up inside. Would be interested in feedback if you do get the Cocoon one though.

@ZacharinaQuack We are still swaying back and forth.

I was not holding much expectation for Cocoon before we went to the showroom, as lots of reviews mentioned it's really firm. I imagined it would be kind of uncomfortably firm. Nearly backed out for viewing, as it's one hour drive away for us.

But we were pleasantly surprised. The firmness was just right for us and the quality looked good. We both like the simplicity of their mechanism of folding and extending the bed. DH was really impressed. There are also lots of choices for materials and colours.

But I have some major issues with all of them - shape and size. Our lounge is rather narrow. And there's also a radiator on one end of the wall which we would rather not get blocked. So that leaves barely enough width to fit the 235cm model. DH would rather not to. Then if we take the smaller model, with 200cm width, the chaise part has a width of 80cm which leaves not any extra normal sitting area than our current one. In my opinion, the chaise really could have been narrowed! The depth is a bit much too, as you mentioned. Our current sofa has 90 depth and DH already complaining too deep. Well, Cocoon's is 110cm!

So we've been back and forth. I decided we could just do with a normal sofa but longer than our current one so one person could sleep on it without legs dangling out. Then use a separate attachable resting stool to prop up the feet if needed. BUT we looked all over the internet and aren't convinced with any! Habitat has quite a few models could work, but reading into details of reviews and looking at real life pictures, they seem just so inferiorly built than.

Then, like what you thought, we ended up going back to IKEA page, as we've been using IKEA for so many years and the quality has almost always been sound. But again, the reviews are awful in terms of the retainment of shape and firmness. So I'm really unsure...and kept hovering back to Cocoon's page with the attempts to convince myself that it can work...

We said we'd go to IKEA and give their models a good look. But...ya...I can't get rid of that sofa from Cocoon from my mind... Not sure...
