New bed for 8 Yr old

We'll be redecorating DS7's large bedroom in the next few weeks and want to replace his bed.

He's lucky to have plenty of space so he has a stand-alone wardrobe and desk with soace for a double.

We're considering a bunk bed with a double underneath and single on top which we can use when we have friends or family staying, but also so he can have a defined bed and separate space for reading, loafing, etc.

Something like the pic attached.

Any recommendations / warnings or alternative suggestions?

Ask yourself how often friends will be staying. Changing sheets on a bunk bed is an absolute pain in the arse.

We have that exact bed. The edges are very sharp as my head and shins will tell you!
The bottom bed is a small double, so slightly harder to buy sheets for than a normal double, and the top bunk is a faff to change the sheets.... Bottom bed is also not big enough for two adults really if you were hoping it could serve as a guest bed ever.
It also took two days to assemble...

All that being said, the storage is good, the steps rather than a ladder feel much safer and it has been used for many a sleepover, creates a perfect den when needed and my dc loves it!

We spent a lot of time looking at different bed options. We went with this one because I frequently end up sleeping with dc (sleep issues!) and this met both their desire for a high sleeper and my desire not to gave to climb a ladder and squish in to a single with them at 3am.

I hadn't thought about changing sheets. A hated job at the best of times! We do have people staying often but I must admit the fact that it's a small double underneath is a pain.

I'd read the reviews mentioning sharp edges too so that's useful to hear again.

Thanks

I'd get a single bed (high sleeper maybe) and then a double sofa bed that can be a sofa most of the time and a double for visitors. IKEA have some good daybed options.

I'd buy a double bed with a single trundle bed (or just mattress) to go underneath.

We've had this set-up for the last 17 years and it means guests can stay the night easily, and DC can have sleepovers.

We've had a high sleeper in the past and it was a pain in the arse changing the sheets - and DS used to stick his bogeys on the ceiling 🤢

Looks amazing and add the stuff he loves , one thing I learned from my Brother kids love to be active and doing more stuff these days so make sure you got the screen time limit on the Nintendo switch or toys so they get eat and rest time and what worked with the snacks option at 3pm .
