Load bearing wall removal

It seems so be a common thing now for the foundation depth to be checked before removing a load bearing wall. We have plans created by an engineer to remove the wall between our kitchen and dining space and need to have the builders check the foundation depth but having contacted several builders and showed them the plans only 1 has actually mentioned the process for doing the check. Would really like to get an idea on the process for this, if anyone has had the same thing done? And the additional cost this adds when removing a loading bearing wall? TIA

How much wall is coming down? If it’s less than a double door width you might not need a foundation check.
But if you do, the builder would usually just dig down to find the existing foundation depth. They are most likely to do this on an outside wall and assume all foundations are the same depth.

Thanks for the explanation, we are removing about 5 metres of wall altogether so it'll be necessary. Just the thought of a hole in the ground seems worrying

We removed about 4m of supporting wall to make a kitchen diner. The builders had to put steel posts in to support the steel beam, and those posts had to be placed on concrete pads. Our existing foundations were only 4” deep! (raft foundations) so the builders dug two square trenches for the concrete pads. They were about 1m deep. Building Control came and looked at them to make sure they’d hit solid ground.
It wasn’t a big deal in the scheme of things. I don’t remember the cost as it was several years ago and part of a bigger job.
