Do you mean tiles or sheet? I would have sheet vinyl as I like the way it fits right unto edges with no gaps and there is no chance of any lifting of planks. Also if the floor is not totally level you can still get a good finish.

Yes it's the sheet one looked in to the tiles but it was so expensive plus they have to do alot off work to the floor before it can get fitted.

I have (parquet style) vinyl in one reception because of dogs and visiting DC. It's warm underfoot, it's easy to clean, it's a thick grade and it looks much better than, say, laminate. It's not the tile and UFH solution of my dreams, but it's fine.

toamch · 30/06/2023 08:02

That's why I went with it as my carpets only been down 3 years and its filthy even after a professional clean

Thinking of getting it - we had laminate when we moved here and it’s scratched and faded in the sun. I think vanilla looks lovely - a rug or too will help ?

I’ve got exactly the same dilemma at the moment. Filthy dining room carpet . Can’t find anyone decent to clean it and attempts at doing it myself have ended in disaster. I’ve chosen a sheet vinyl with wood effect but am worried I might be making a mistake.

Moomoola · 30/06/2023 08:48

We are doing the same - I think it will be fine! I think people don’t actually notice floors - they see a general impression of the room - and if you have a bright cushion, picture, they’ll see that.my stylish chum has white walls, bright print or two and a blue sofa and blue rugs from wayfair- that weren’t dear and look fab.
oh to be like her!

Moomoola · 30/06/2023 08:49

P.s. she has chosen a warmer tone wood - I don’t know if that wood help?

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 30/06/2023 08:50

I had vinyl in a very very big sitting room in France. It was a plain ‘limestone’ effect, to match the local stone. The fitter laid it over the carpet with glue as the previous owners had stuck the carpet to the stone floor with un -removable glue ( usual French technique).

we lived with it for six years, it was easy to clean, and it looked very suitable . The carpet underlay was nice and springy😊. We did have rugs to break it up a bit into distinct zones.

As far as I know it is still down, doing service.

It was Quickstep.

The one I have gone for is wood effect and as I'm not changing my colour scheme wanted something that wasn't grey as I'm sick off it tbh but also needed to go with my white funitre hopefully I won't live to regret it

I like it. Nice neutral tone.

MrsPerfect12 · 30/06/2023 15:08

I own a flooring company and we're seeing a massive shift in people having this in main rooms.
It's fine to mop, just don't leave it soaking and be careful moving furniture, don't pull it over the vinyl or you risk ripping it or pulling it up.
Ive not had it myself but my opinion would be that's it's not as hard wearing as laminate but laminate can scratch and fade.

toamch · 06/07/2023 06:35

Just a update had it fitted looks lovely just need a nice rug now

Is it shiny? I was looking at the wood-effect sheet vinyl and I was worried that it has a slightly shiny look about it.

toamch · 06/07/2023 07:54

No doesn't look shiny at all looks lovely

I've got almost the same and like it a lot. After previously having a mix of commercial grade (indestructible) vinyl and laminate down stairs, I find it rips very easily , the children have made a few tears but I can flatten of the damage and then run some superglue into the crack and all is good.

That looks lovely!

Moomoola · 06/07/2023 10:55

Ooh yes, it does.

Nat6999 · 09/07/2023 01:47

I have bleached oak effect sheet vinyl in ds bedroom, I got the thickest one I could afford & paid extra for sheet insulation underneath as the floor is concrete to make it warmer.

HappiDaze · 09/07/2023 02:44

In Sweden a lot of people have vinyl flooring to look like laminate flooring because they don't do carpets like us

So to me that's a green light that it's ok

QueueEtwo · 15/07/2023 14:39

I have it in my hall way to look like Tiles! I really like it!

CrotchetyQuaver · 15/07/2023 15:15

Not quite the same but I had wood effect vinyl laid in a large shed in our garden we use as a home office type room. That was 20 years ago and it still looks really nice. Faded from the sun at the doorway but no worse than wood would fade. People who visit can't believe it's not a planked wood or laminate floor. It worked really well for us!
