Curtain Length

I'm buying a bungalow that has a patio door at one end of the lounge/diner and a large window exactly opposite at the other end, it's long room so they're 33 feet apart.

Both have uninspiring but new/clean white blinds which I will keep.

I've never had a dual aspect room before, my questions are,

  1. Do they need matching curtains?
  2. Should the window curtain be floor length to match the patio door curtain?

It depends on your decor? You could have a lovely patterned set of curtains more busy at one end and a colour match picked out in a plain fabric at the other end.

Curtains must be floor length to look good!
Triple or double pinch pleat and interlined too other wise they look rubbish and don't last.

Is there a radiator underneath the other window?

Yes, the radiator is under the window.

I have floor length curtains in my current lounge and they block most of the heat from the radiator, it essentially warms the bay window.

I'd get thermal Roman blinds for the radiator window and floor length curtains for the patio door.

Another thing to consider is your layout. If one end is lounge & the other dining, there's even less 'need' to have them matching.

That was my thought, the patio end will be the dining space and its narrower, I like the previous posters idea to have a pattern at one end and a coordinating plain colour at the other end.

The rest of the room will be warm neutrals, so creams and beiges with a tan leather sofa, so I'd like a statement curtain at the window end to inject some colour I can then pick out in cushions etc.

I think floor length curtains look nicer but practically speaking I never block the radiator.

I don't think they need to be the same, but they should complement each other. I like your idea about a colour for one that then goes with the rest of the room.

In my lounge I have curtains at the patio doors and a Roman blind in the same fabric at the window opposite. It's looks great.

It isn’t that big a deal to move a radiator, as long as there is a suitable adjacent wall. I did it here with two long radiators, I didn’t want them under the windows for exactly the same reason. You may well find that a modern radiator will put out more heat than older ones. So they can be smaller.

That's not really an option, I want to put furniture on the long back wall to break it up and to provide storage.
