How to waterproof wooden bathroom furniture?

Hello! Moved into a new house recently and the bathroom has a wooden unit for the sink (see pic). I've been just trying to avoid getting water on it, but it's obviously impossible, and it's getting stained. I've been down the google rabbithole but seeing lots of conflicting info...presumably an interior wooden varnish is the best best - but which one is good? And any advice for how often I should varnish a piece of furniture that comes into contact with a lot of water? Thanks so much for any advice xx

I don't know the answer but our bathroom wooden door and one of the bedrooms is getting darker marks I presume from water/ moisture in the air. They have been covered in Osmo oil. So I don't recommend that! Unless I am meant to reapply every year?

I think osmo oil should be reapplied every now and then so if the water is staining sounds like it needs doing again.

Maybe try some yacht varnish. We used to make boats and used this xx

Thanks so much for these ideas! I'm going to give the Osmo oil a try...

I'd tile the top with tiles. Then grout. You could even try and find floor tiles the same style as the wooden unit if you want. You would probably need an edging made so the raw edges of the tiles didn't show.

My other suggestion would be to have a piece of quartz worktop cut to fit the wooden top.
