After 16 years of use we've finally replaced our mattress. We ended up choosing a Cotton 1500 pocket sprung zip and link superking from Warren Evans which has just been delivered.
On removing our old mattress, which they collected, we have found our old bed frame is broken. We have decided it is beyond repair and want to buy a new one.
Our also 16 year old bed frame was an expensive Oak one from the Natural Bed Company with sprung slats. We've decided we don't want sprung slats again.
So we're looking at options and ideally want some storage underneath.
We've been considering a wood frame with fixed slats from Warren Evans, Get Laid beds or Taurus beds. Anyone's experience of those would be really helpful. We really want something that will last and be sturdy.
They all seem to add a big cost for storage boxes so we could just get a decent bed with space under it and get some boxes from IKEA or Lakeland. Also, we had a children's bed years ago with wooden drawers underneath and things inside got so dusty, which puts me off.
We're also thinking something in 2 parts might be useful if we need to move it. Taurus Beds do a zip and link 2 part wooden frame superking bed, but it's quite expensive.
Or we're also considering a Hypnos hideaway bed. We're not keen on the look of divans, especially with those traditional headboards, but the amount of storage space appeals. Has anyone had one of these? Might a simpler wooden headboard work with this, or would that look ridiculous? I have a dust mite allergy and so the idea of a fabric headboard I can't wash at 60 degrees does not appeal at all!
We want to choose something online, don't want to go bed shopping! We also don't have that much space so don't want anything that extends that far out of the mattress, or we might go for a space saving bed where the mattress is the same size as the base.
We're sleeping on the sofabed at the moment having dismantled our broken frame. We intend to set the new mattress up on the floor until we get a new frame, but hope we can have one delivered in the next month or so.
Any input or ideas welcome! Thanks.
