How do I baby proof these wires?!

Anyone any ideas for baby proofing this dangerous corner of our house! It’s right by our front door. We have a shoe rack which is drilled into the wall so toddler can’t pull it down. However our modem, phone jack and sockets are all within reach of dd who now is obsessed with this area! We can’t use the traditional socket covers/box covers as the shoe rack cant be moved…nor would they fit. Help!!

How do I baby proof these wires?!

Could you manufacture a small box, understand the shoe rack can't be moved - just slip a cut piece that's the right size in, fasten it to the shoe rack with a command strip or similar on - then pop a cut piece of moulding on the side to neaten it up? Then you can slide it out to access the wires when you need to!

Do you need to? It might just be laziness on our part but we’ve not baby proofed things like that, we don’t use socket covers (I heard they were more dangerous). It’s just a phone line, I can’t see them being electrocuted even if they do pull it out.

The phone connection is not a live dangerous socket; but it will not like being pulled in and out all the time. I can't tell from the picture whether the black socket (presumably electric) has a plug in it.

Can you just stick something in front of it for a bit then they’ll lose interest

Put a fake plant in front of it

I’d just stick something in front of it. It will be a pain to move every time you want shoes, but it won’t be long until she’s found something else to meddle with.

I never baby proofed anything. Apart from stairs

Do you need to?

Don't baby-proof. Teach them to leave things alone or remove them from the area if they won't.

RoseslnTheHospital · 21/04/2023 11:47

It doesn't need baby proofing. I'd leave it and just redirect if your toddler pays any attention to it. Presumably you're not using that area as a play area, so it's only really a potential problem when leaving or entering your house?

We didn't baby proof anything, on the rare occasions our child stopped being lazy enough to show an interest we just explained not to touch, boredom soon followed

If you don't have a curious baby you don't need to baby proof😂
However those of us that have fiddlers know that 'no' is no answer to curiosity!
I agree the phone socket won't be dangerous just irritating, but looks like an electrical socket behind. Op depending on how much room you have, you could either use a stair gate (just make sure it's securely tethered) A play pen popped in front or get a thick large A1 piece of card and secure/ staple to the wall and the chest of drawers. Out of sight is generally out of mind for curious little creatures!
Ps I had one toddler who was interested in being a fiddle fingers and one who fiddled constantly and is now a teen forever taking things apart to see how they work!
