Can I claim on my insurance for this?

I put rug tape down to stop big air bubbles under our rug BUT we have carpet in the lounge. Long story short, the carpet is RUINED.

I have tried hiring a rug doctor/scrubbing/ using an iron but nothing. It's like two really big, black strips of glue. I'm so fed up with it! We have to keep a rug down otherwise you can see it. We're expecting our first baby so this is not the time for a big expense like redecorating. Do you think my home insurance would accept a claim? I'm unsure, only because I intentionally put the tape down (even though I did not think it would ruin the carpet).

TIA

Do you have accidental damage included on your policy?

And what's your no claims bonus (in years) and the excess on your policy? Even if it's covered, it may not be worth it given the excess and higher premium from claiming in future years.

I would be amazed if you got an insurer to pay for this but there's no harm in checking /trying.

Have you tried using a solvent that's designed for removing adhesives eg Goo Gone?

Try some white spirit.

Have you tried spraying it with WD40? I spilt black gloss paint on a carpet recently and it removed it without a trace.

Ditto wd40

Also I used the vanish carpet stain remover to remove tape glue from a carpet. My kids were sharing a room and we thought it would be sensible to use electrical tape to assign 'zones' but it left glue when we took it up after a year

You need a solvent to remove the glue. If you can afford it, might be worth getting a professional carpet cleaning firm in. They will be used to dealing with this kind of thing.

Like others have said ,dont bother claiming ,trust me you will pay it all back in increasing premiums
