Have you changed your kitchen cupboard doors?

Had my white gloss kitchen for ages and getting a bit bored of it but can’t afford a full new kitchen. So I was thinking of changing the doors and handles but I want a different colour that’s not gloss.

Would that look weird if the carcasses remain white gloss? Anyone done something similar and willing to share a pic?

We painted ours, would you be willing to try that?

Suuudohnym · 01/04/2023 20:37

Oooh yes - but I’d be worried about making a big mess of it!! I tried upcycling some drawers a few months and my paint job was so monumentally crap, I had to take them to the dump 😆

Would you be happy to please show a photo of yours (and tell me what paint you used!)

Can gloss be painted ?

Houseyvibe · 01/04/2023 20:41

I have done this, they cover the carcasses too. In my case it was a very expensive German kitchen and was brilliant quality. It has totally transformed the kitchen and looks brilliant

We sprayed ours, just the bits you can see not the insides. Looks good and cheaper than a new kitchen!

Justmuddlingalong · 01/04/2023 20:42

I had cream gloss with brushed chrome handles. I kept the doors and just bought matt black handles. It really made such a difference.
Try new handles to start with and see how it looks before deciding on the doors.

I thought about that - but I’ve got really long handles that I don’t like - I’d like much smaller ones.

the original kitchen was an expensive German kitchen which I inherited but I hated the colour and because it was such a good kitchen I couldn’t justify replacing the whole thing. I replaced the doors and fascia’s, added trims to the top, changed the extractor, added an additional built in fridge and also added all cupboards fo a part which was floor cupboards only and it was about £6k but it is a big kitchen. To replace would have been 4/5 times the price

Violethayes · 01/04/2023 21:17

@Suuudohnym we used a company who came and sprayed it. Depends where you live but if you google it there are lots of companies that do this.

Suuudohnym · 01/04/2023 21:17

Thank you @Houseyvibe - pricey but like you say much cheaper than replacing the lot!

I didn’t know that - I’ll have a look, thank you!

Sick of repainting our reused doors. Going to change them over to stainless steel during this year.

Saz12 · 11/04/2023 09:25

If you google, there are loads of companies that do replacement doors/trims/end panels etc. They vary in price quite a bit. We replaced ours and it looked great.
If your current doors are gloss, theyre probably vinyl wrapped mdf or ply. Similar quality replacement doors will cost similar to a respray ( or that was the case when we looked into it abt 3 years ago). We fitted ours ourselves and ordered online. If you've solid wood in good condition then repainting will be a better option though!
Most carcasses dont match the doors (unless youve a particularly high end kitchen). You can get edging tape for the front edges of carcass from replacement doir companies if you want.

We had our kitchen resprayed 2 years ago and I think it cost £1800ish, went from a gloss to a Matt finish. They took the doors away, filled the existing handle holes and resprayed them off site. They then came back and sprayed the carcasses.
