Bed linen that irons beautifully

I know, I know...

However, I do iron bedlinen. Some of mine is shockingly difficult to iron (because cheapo) and I am thinking of getting something better that irons more easily.

Fellow sheet-ironers, can anyone recommend me your bedlinen? I want plain white.

Why would you iron bed linen? It gets screwed up as soon as you get in the bed!

Coffeellama · 26/03/2023 19:16

Do you iron it on an ironing board or whilst it’s on the bed?

Movinghouseatlast · 26/03/2023 19:20

The higher the thread count the easier it is to iron. Also do it slightly damp. I own holiday cottages and have tested a fair bit of bedding. And ironed it!

King of Cotton is hotel standard and cheaper than eg White Company for the same quality. At least 300 tc is the way to go.

Chippy1234 · 26/03/2023 19:20

White Company or my friend highly recommends Bella Dorma and she irons everything!

PureGoldLeaf · 26/03/2023 19:20

I iron my bed linen. Its either really high thread count cotton or linen.

White Co or Soak and Sleep. It isn't easy to iron but I just iron the top side of everything and stick it on the bed. I don't recommend Soak and Sleep linen at all, it looks like it has never been ironed after one night. High thread count cotton or White Co linen looks and feels like a hotel. Worth the cost and the ironing imo.

Thank you!

Glad it’s not just me 😀Good quality bed linen , always ironed, is my luxury. My DH thought I was bonkers to iron sheets, but he loves it too now.
I buy Egyptian cotton sheets and pillow cases, and always have a top sheet under the duvet. You can buy it all on eBay, I normally go for 1,200 thread count, and always use spray starch when ironing them . Really easy to iron and quick. Pure luxury.

John Lewis Croft collection irons beautifully or Bedfolk pricey but worth it.

blebbleb · 26/03/2023 19:36

I never iron bed linen, or anything tbh. It does look like a dishrag sometimes but I'd rather do that than iron.

What a pointless posts from those who are happy in unironed bedlinen, given that the question was for bedlinen that irons well.

Some of us take pleasure in ironed bedlinen and are willing to iron.

And what an equally pointless post from someone who said ‘I like ironed bedding’ rather than ‘I don’t iron my bedding’ but also didn’t answer the question 🤷‍♀️

I have 2 duvet covers made of cotton sateen - they’re still 100% cotton but have a smooth satiny finish. They weren’t cheap (Frette via tx Max and in the sale at Liberty) but they wash brilliantly. If I dry them on the line they only need the briefest touch of the iron. Also had Cotton seersucker covers for the kids but didn’t get on with these so well - unironed was took crinkly for me and ironed flattened the seersucker too much.

WellTidy · 31/03/2023 18:32

I find that polycotton mixes are easier to iron than heavier thread count linen. I find that they crease less when washing and drying, and the iron sort of glides over the fabric, making it quicker to iron. Not too cheap polycotton, M&S type level.

But if you want bedding that looks good without ironing, I’d recommend seersucker. I bought a seersucker set for the spare room from John Lewis last year and it looks lovely unironed. I don’t say this lightly! And this is from someone who has always ironed bedding and I’m in my late 40s.

Hand-ironing sheets sounds like madness, with less than satisfactory outcomes - they need mangling not ironing, which means a commercial cleaner these days. My mother used to do this now and then with sheets she was using as tablecloths - it didn't break the bank iirc. Other than that, even she had given in and switched over to fitted sheets. But I do get the occasional appeal of hotel-style linen.

Spanielsarepainless · 31/03/2023 19:52

M&S cotton bedlinen. Goes on forever, irons beautifully and is bliss to sleep in.

Noseylittlemoo · 31/03/2023 20:00

I love the feeling of getting into bed with freshly ironed bedlinen. I agree with PPs re a higher thread count and sateen being easier to iron. I have a 1000tc sateen bought in White Company sale and it has the newly ironed feel for a 2-3 nights which makes it even nicer! I have a cheaper Christie fitted sheet bought from TK max (because the matching fitted sheet wasn't on sale) which also irons well.

wibblewobbleball · 31/03/2023 20:09

Not White company!! Awful to iron. The easiest to iron, and most beautifully soft high thread count sheets are from Dusk. Absolute holy grail of sheets.

cobblers123 · 31/03/2023 20:41

I bought Dorma bedding last year and that irons well.

I only iron bedding at the moment as I don't have a tumble dryer any more otherwise I would just air it in the dryer for five minutes then fold and flatten it. It wouldn't need ironing then.

Buying another dryer later in the year.
