Carpets when wool is not an option

I'm in London so really don't want wool due to moths. But I do want carpet in the bedrooms for warmth & noise reduction.

I like the look of sisal but is that a pain to walk on. Any alternative recommendations?

I don’t understand why can’t you get wool carpet in London due to moths? I’m just outside and mine is fine, is there some form of moth plague going on> 😁

I'm in London and have had two bedrooms with carpet moth (in both DS's bedrooms 😡). I got rid of the old carpets, set off moth bombs, hoovered every inch of their room's floorboards, skirting etc and replaced carpet with one that had been pre treated against moth. The wool carpets in the rest of my house have been fine. You can get moth resistant carpet that is wool.

everyone i know has had moths & i had them in rentals so wanted to avoid

@deuxgarcons that interesting I wasn't sure if "treated" would actually be effective.

Blimey, that’s not good. Would a wool mix work?

sisal is hard on the feet. You could also try polyester.

Carpet moths are the bane of my life. We have (had) beautiful wool carpets but the moths get everywhere. I work at a grade 1 heritage property where we have synthetic carpets due to the risk of moths to furnishings. You'd never know the carpet isn't wool, it's really good quality.

My sister is in London and had carpet moths too!
Maybe it is a London thing 😂

deuxgarcons · 14/03/2023 18:08

@bibbybox it has been effective so far 🤞. Go into an independent carpet shop and discuss with them.

I replaced a moth-munched wool carpet recently with polypropylene. Was never keen before on synthetic, but it's absolutely fine. Soft, looks like wool. Had thought about sisal etc but wanted the softness as it's the bedroom.

Chippy1234 · 14/03/2023 19:32

Ditto re polypropylene. It’s much better than wool and much cheaper (and no moths!)

MollyMunster · 14/03/2023 19:34

Polypropylene here too, it looks good and is easy to clean.

I've heard very good things about the products from Unnatural Flooring, and I will be getting samples for the moment when my budget allows me to replace our stair and landing carpet.

I had a wool rug that got moth; I've replaced it with a woven polypropylene one, and you'd never know. The texture is very similar. www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjEyeXEn-X9AhUHAcAKHTnmAVEQFnoECA0QAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.carpetright.co.uk%2Fcarpets%2Fmade-from%2F100-polypropylene%2F&usg=AOvVaw1i0NZxXrMot488u5_QGDaE

I went for a synthetic carpet - Birman cat prone to hairballs. It is soft, looks like wool and is easier to clean. No, we don't get electric shocks.
