Can anyone help suggest any better ?

I hate the lounge layout I have copied the previous owners layout but feels wrong .
The fireplace is at one end nearest to kitchen .
Furniture consists of -
A 2 seat sofa
A 3 seat sofa
A ikea hemnes sideboard and 3 drawer tv unit
2 side tables

currently both sofas on left and sideboard and tv on right . Side table in middle of sofas and one in upper right corner . It feels like a waiting room .

I'd split the room up tbh, as such a long room with furniture down the sides would feel a bit corridor like.

I'm presuming you have a separate dining room? In which case, I'd have the front half of the room set up as a sitting/tv room, with the sofas at a right angle to each other, pulled away from the wall, with one sofa forming a partial barrier across the middle of the room. I'd have a rug going right underneath the sofas to define the separate space. I'd have a side table next to one of the sofas with a table lamp on.

The back part of the room with the fireplace, I'd have set up as a quiet area/snug/reading room, with another rug, the chair in a corner under soft lighting from a standard lamp, the sideboard with a table lamp on it, and possibly another chair and a bookcase. I'd have a side table next to the chair.

We have a similarly long living room (30' x 12' narrowing to 11'6), although we have our dining table in ours as well as sofas etc, because we opted to just have an island for casual dining in the kitchen.

Our room has a dark and bright end. The dark end having the fireplace and being nearest to the kitchen lends itself to cosy dining so this is where we have our (round) table. We also use the table for games/my sewing as well as reading so we have two cabinets (both with lamps on) opposite the fireplace with my sewing stuff in one and cutlery etc in the other. In the recess adjacent to the fireplace we have a bookcase and next to this a small chair for reading and a floor lamp.

At the bright end we have a large sofa along the wall opposite the window and a love seat at right angles to it, dividing the spaces, similar to the 'barrier' suggested by @mrsm43s The TV is on a vintage sideboard opposite the love seat and we have three lamp tables (each with lamps) between the sofas and sideboard as well as a coffee table. I'm considering getting a long upholstered footstool for additional seating opposite the large sofa but will have this 'floating' in the room rather than up against the window.

Our rugs are huge - the one at the seating end extends well under both sofa and love seat - so both spaces are clearly defined.

Although we do have some furniture against the walls, imho the way we've arranged everything means it doesn't have that waiting room or corridor vibe.

Having one end as a 'snug' for reading would make good use of your space, imho. Dressing the whole room with ambient lighting will make it feel more zoned and set out as spaces with particular purposes.

We have same here, we currently have TV unit in corner next to fireplace, 3 seater sofa on wall opposite then 2 armchairs splitting the room up facing the window, also have small coffee table in-between chairs and either side of sofa so loads of places for lamps, coasters, plants etc, upper part of room has large sideboard that has record player etc and a relaxing lounging chair, we have separate dining kitchen so didn't need that space for anything else .... I'll try and upload diagram...

Move the sofas away from the wall and have them at an angle to each other around the fireplace and telly

tried to make diagram, our room is huge - 30ft long by about 15 foot wide but we have lots of doors in the room - we decided to split it up into 2 areas - hopefully it'll give you some ideas on what you could do....

how about something like this.

Shift the TV and 3 seater sofa in the area away from the kitchen and make that half of the room distinct with a focus towards the door to the hall & the TV. Add a chair or two (C) to complete this group.

then move the 2 seater sofa out from the wall and add another small sofa or chair for a cosy area nearer the kitchen. there would be space for a desk (D) in the corner.

B are bookshelves for books or decorative vases / photos etc to make a nice point of interest.
