Long living room any ideas

My living room is rectangular as you can see in the photos. Everything is lined up in two rows along the two longest walls. Anyone any ideas on a revamp of this room? The sofa needs to stay where it is and probably the tv which is opposite the sofa. I hate the curtains also..Thanks for any tips.

Nice room. I’d recommend a round rug between the sofa and TV/unit and painting or wallpapering the window wall in a darker colour (doesn’t have to be dark) as that will draw the eye and visually shorten the room.

I'd put the tv in the corner then have the sofa facing the window to create a cosy tv/relaxing space. Desk where the sofa is now then dining table in the same place. It's a lovely big room.

Ah sorry, ignore me - sofa and TV staying out. As you were!!

To brighten it up with little effort, I'd get a rug infront of the tv, floor length curtains , a picture behind the sofa and matching cushions and throw fit the sofa. It's got a lovely feel to the room, I like your lighting and the bookcase unit and table look cosy there .
In time is there somewhere else in the house for the dresser by the window, it's nice but you could have a large chair there , make it more living roomy

I have a long living room. Bit of a pain isn’t it?

could you wall mount your tv so you don’t need the tv cabinet, therefor opening up space.

A big mirror behind the sofa or where your dining table is would open up the room.

above our sofa we have one of those ikea shelves and have pictures and some plants on top of it.

and definitely floor length curtains.

some more plants and colour would look great.

I’d move the dining table to in front of the window. It’ll shorten the room and give a distinct dining area and stop the ro looking like a corridor. Move the computer table to where the dining table is now. Floor length curtains.

Yes TV on the wall would free up half a wall-bas tv stand v long

Interesting - yes table might work better there but the corner near bookcase is a cosy spot. Thanks for all ideas will send pics if I get it sorted

I would get rid of the dresser as I think it looks out of place in the room. If there's enough room, move the desk over to the corner where the dresser is, but along the window wall, so you're looking out of the window. And then add a nice chair between the sofa and window. Long curtains would make it feel cosier and I'd paint the walls a bit of a darker shade.

I agree that the dresser looks out of place. I think it would work better if the dining table and dresser were close to each other which would mean moving the table in front of the window. Id definitely be tempted to try that to see how it worked. Then I'd add a chair near the bookcase if that would fit without it needing to be pushed against the wall.

Definitely add a large rug (the sofa front feet should ideally be on the rug), art, mirror(s) and some interesting cushions/throw as well as floor length curtains. I really like your little sconce, but it needs to be quite a bit lower, imho.

We also have a long, rectangular living room of 30'+ with a window at one end only (although our window is on a side wall, not an end) and we always thought we'd have the sofas in the window-less end with the table at the brighter end. For us it actually works better the other way round as we mainly eat in the kitchen during the day and only tend to use the dining table when it's dark anyway. It also means our table is closer to the kitchen so not as far to bring plates etc.

We've clearly defined the spaces with different rugs at each end and cabinets containing cutlery etc next to the dining table, which is round like yours. Because it's a fairly dark space we have mirrors on three walls (five in total) to bounce light around.

Meant to say, if you did move the round table, perhaps you could swap the desk to where the round table is now.

Thank you! Lots to ponder. Agree about the dresser just finding it hard to part with it
