I need a large gold/brass thing.

Redecorated living room, have a small table in the corner but it needs a thing on it.

needs to be quite big… 70cm? Maybe a bit bigger. Also brass/gold at a push oak. Or Navy.

Was thinking a storm lantern or naice vase thing? Had looked at lamps but already have 2 floor lamps that are quite bold.

Any ideas/links would be appreciated

@Chocbuttonsandredwine those things are definitely all too 'samey' imho and don't work together. I do quite like the cat's head candleholder but it would look far better with a squat candle such as the first one linked by @LookItsMeAgain or even something squat in a bright colour perhaps?

Whilst I get your need for something large and gold/brass, you don't want it to look like you just swept into The Range (or wherever!) and bought everything gold, imho. Far better for it to look as though the grouping has evolved and is comprised of items you love/that have meaning for you.

Even if new is your thing and you don't want old, antique or vintage, having everything all shiny and new is likely to look too contrived, so you need to mix it up a bit.

I'd still consider a table lamp with interesting shade to bring in a different layer of pattern/colour and maybe an artfully arranged pile of books. Otherwise a vase with either seasonal flowers or else something from Abigail Ahern as suggested above.

I’ve not been there, nearest one is 40 miles away but I’ll take a wee drive out. 👍🏽

On this page scroll down until you see the picture where there is a monkey candle holder and it has height:

I don't know if you need height or mass to fill the spot.

Can you perhaps take a few photos of just individual items where you have the space you're looking to fill?

I think with the brass table a brass object is too much: you’d be better off with a ceramic vase and something big like eucalyptus stems or dried Chinese lanterns to fill the space – one big thing with impact.

That’s lovely.

Will take all that back to Range and have another look +TKMaxx

Love the palm tree lamp!

Look on Etsy. You’ll be bored of those range options within a year. The fired pot with eucalyptus posted above is a much better choice

Will do:

think I’m just impatiently getting to “get it finished” rather than buying stuff I actually like which is stupid I know

Taking it all back makes sense!

Don't beat yourself up about wanting to get it finished - it's an easy trap to fall into, especially as there's so much choice these days that we feel it should be a relatively straightforward process to find something that 'fits'.

From personal experience, we have - or at least had till we downsized a few years ago, and most likely still do compared to lots of people - shed loads of decorative 'stuff', the majority of which was chosen because we (or at the very least, one of us) loved it.

Despite this, as we've gradually renovated our current house, I've found myself needing to mix things up a bit, resulting in numerous online and real life searches for the 'perfect' items. My ebay watch list is humongous, lol. I've lost count of how many times I've thought 'that space needs something pink (or whatever)' and bought a pink vase (for example) in Homesense/TK Maxx thinking it was right, only to realise it was OK but didn't make my heart sing. So back it went.

I've now reverted to only buying what I love - and as someone said, if you buy things you love somehow they'll all work together ❤️

Waiting for the perfect item to come along can be a PITA....but it can also be huge fun searching. Rome wasn't built in a day, as my dad used to say!

One thing I learned op, is don’t buy something decorative unless you love it. Spend as long as it takes on line, in shops, looking for that perfect thing and when you find it and fall in love, buy it. Look at the empty space until then. Wait till you find it.

because if you don’t, you end up with a house full of stuff you don’t really like and then you feel you need to keep it as it’s wasteful.

everything in it should be something you love. I’m a fan of quirky antiques and beautiful fabrics, I learned long ago not to rush out and buy crap but leave it empty as long as it takes to find that one piece that makes me happy.

because it will always make you happy. In ten, twenty, thirty years, it will still make you happy. But some piece of rush purchase tat In the right colour is unlikely to do that.

Blimey cross posted and said the same thing.
