Silly to get a wooden coutertop for utility room?

I don't want to spead too much on our new utility room, quartz would be my first choice but it's so expensive for just a utility room. I will be hand washing clothes and diy/paint cleaning in there so I think it will be a hard working room. I do love to look of a butcher block but worry to will get destroyed.

I have wooden counters in the kitchen and would not have them again. You might be more careful than me though.

Go for a nice metal countertop.

Functional and looks great.

I would just go laminate in a utility - it'll stand up to the use, and no one will see it so I wouldn't want to spend on real wood or stone.

We have quartz in our kitchen and the laminate version in our utility.

Yes, me too - in my kitchen. They need a lot of maintenance and easily get scratched and marked. You will be getting baskets of wet washing around - not a good idea. I’d never get some again. Also, you have to oil them regularly and if there’s a mark, either it stays there forever or has to be sanded down.

We had wood in a rented flat years ago and I was knackered before we moved in so I wasn't sure if it's possible to maintain.

Sounds like laminate is better for this purpose.

I did fancy concrete too but trying to keep costs down.

We went for the basic laminate in the utility. Not too concerned if it gets mucky and cheap to replace if needed. It's hardy stuff and doesn't really stain.

We chose wood (iroko) for the kitchen in our current house, having installed it in two out four of our previous houses where we didn't find it too much of a pain to maintain.

There was some left over so we put it in our small laundry room (more of a cupboard really!) where I also do hand washing and cleaning paintbrushes etc. So far - it's been in about a year in the laundry - it's wearing fine....but we are really careful of splashes/spills etc.

On our island we have microcement which looks lovely, but does chip fairly easily so I don't think I'd choose that again. Next house I'm going with Cararra marble - or a similar quartz - everywhere.

Laminate for the utility here too. Like old fine - it's a functional room and no one but family see it. Like you by time we were doing utility we needed to manage costs. Got want i wanted in kitchen by way of cupboards and worktop and went for cheapest suits and laminate top in utility. It's worn fine

It's good to hear laminate is strong now, I think I was put off from what it was like years ago but it seems to have come a long way and improved. Yeah our kitchen will be exactly how we want it but I can't justify spending on the utility.

Thanks everyone.
