I'm annoyed with our play room, in theory in should work but it dosnt. It's currently a dumping ground for washing. Daughter dosnt play in the hideaway, never has. Kitchen is never touched. And I know it's too nuetral this area is an exstentions off of our dining room so wanted to keep it inkeeping with the dining room but I no longer care about that, I want an area my daughter almost 3 and my 4month old with eventually play. Rug is also now gone as it got in rusted with food 🤪

help with ideas, I want a little table to do colouring and stuff for definite but what else.

Take that canopy tent thing down and move the play kitchen elsewhere for a while. Familiarity breeds contempt, and if it isn't being played with, it has clearly lost its novelty value. Bring it out again in 6 months time.

Hi,
I would pop a small sofa in there so you can sit in there and your children can play whilst you have a cuppa.
Would it fit against the panelled wall. A coffee table would double up as a surface to play on as well and a new rug perhaps one that’s easier to keep clean.
We used to have a playroom/ conservatory and this worked well for us. Off the kitchen diner like yours and it was so handy. We also had a tv in there (I noticed you had one in the dining area though.

Our playroom has a sofa bed in, mostly because it doubles as a guest room but handy for sitting and watching them play. We also keep most the children's books in there.
In theory there's a small table that they can use for crafts but it seems to have turned into extra storage. Most the time my children will just bring the toys out to play with but don't mind this too much so long as they go back.
My children are older, but I found putting the toys they play with together in there worked best.

Our 3 year old has a playroom. It’s at the back of the living room, which would have traditionally have been a dinning room. She occasionally sits at her IKEA desk to do crafts but prefers to bring her toys into the living room to play. We don’t mind as having the playroom means we have somewhere to keep her toys tidy.

If were in your shoes I’d return the items you’ve recently purchased and turn it into storage area.

Your bean bag is a better idea than a couch because then the floor space is flexible and the bean bag can be moved easily if a game needs to spread out.
I need to see a link the research into children preferring beige before I believe it Wink.

My kids are older but they have always spent loads of time in their playroom.

You adapt the stuff in there to their age. I used to have one of those IKEA teepee tents in there that my DD liked to sit in and read.

Now it's more about gaming and hanging out with friends.

Three is a great age for role role play games like the kitchen. Have you shown her how to play with it? Encourage her to make a picnic for you three or her favourite cuddly toys or dolls. Get her to pretend cook etc

My daughter has autism, she dosnt role play, she has no interest in baby dolls, tea sets, anything like that, she likes to throw and catch, draw, and play with her peppa play sets.

@Burntoutandfedup My daughters autistic but absolutely loves dolls, tea sets, role play etc. Like your daughter she likes to play throwing games, draw etc. Have you applied for DLA so you have the extra money to do activities she likes, such as taking her to Peppa Pig World, athletic type clubs?

How did you redecorate so fast?!

It took about a week, it was only really painting the arch, and panelling, and a few strips of wall paper, it took ages waiting for all the bits and bobs to arrive

Looks lovely.

Good job well done.

changedforonenightonly · 24/02/2023 20:32

I wouldn't let anyone play in there it's soo lovely. Don't let kids in there they twill ruin it.

Get a comfy chair under that hanging cover and move the mini kitchen out.

Tv on the wall and a chaise lounge. That is your play room to chill.

Wasted on kids that.

dcbc1234 · 24/02/2023 20:52

It strikes me that there's nowhere comfy for a child to sit. Get the rug back and a comfy chair.

Sorry I hadn't seen the update.
