If you have a burnt orange love seat

.... and a brown/grey sofa (from Loaf if it helps you picture it), what colour are your walls going to be painted.

Large room with two big windows, one a bay, white shutters and pale oak floor. And a white stone fireplace.

I would like to go dark maybe but I don't know what colour and it's doing my head in. And I need to decide by tomorrow to have any chance of finishing the painting before my floor goes down on Monday.

DH chose the love seat colour (though I quite like it) . I wanted A sort of apple green colour or Teal which would have been easier. HELP!

I don’t have those things but I am picturing sage green in my head?

Rainbowshit · 01/02/2023 19:25

Mole's breath by farrow and ball? I have an orange chair and a grey sofa and am thinking of that for the walls of our snug.

avocado44 · 01/02/2023 19:25

If dark, you could go aubergine

Anothernamechange3 · 01/02/2023 19:26

Green, like a plant coloured green, or leafy jungle like wallpaper?

bravotango · 01/02/2023 19:27

If dark I'd probably go navy, but if not a strong mid blue might look good (e.g. lulworth blue F&B)

Anothernamechange3 · 01/02/2023 19:28

Depends on the shade of orange I suppose

Ok so any greens or browns will give it a retro feel, which is nice if intentional.

An autumn vibe might work, so woody colours, natural textures.

If there's lots of light in the room stick with neutrals and pick the orange out in threads and pictures.

Orange is warm, so maybe clash it with cool peach to lighten it up.

ShowOfHands · 01/02/2023 19:30

I'd go teal or aubergine.

I found this really helpful for ideas -

Opposite burnt orange would be a blue...

What's the aspect of your room and when will you use it (i.e. will you mainly be viewing it under sunlight or artificial lights)?

TheLastDreamOfTheOak · 01/02/2023 20:17

One window faces south, one west. It will be mainly used in the evenings I guess-it's our main lounge. It's very light in there as the windows are large.
I wondered about green smoke (f and b) but I like the blue idea too.

Dark blue if the room can take it. Or a warm white and bring other colour in through art work and house plants etc

Heavydirtysou1 · 01/02/2023 20:29

Dulux timeless is a good warm white, not yellow at all but a warmth that comes through and stops it looking clinical or cold

WombatBombat · 01/02/2023 20:30

We’ve had a sofa that colour in two rooms - one Moles’s Breath and now one that’s Parma Gray.

Quornflakegirl · 01/02/2023 20:30

We have a orange chair with navy sofas and F&B Green Smoke walls.

Heavydirtysou1 · 01/02/2023 20:31

www.apartmenttherapy.com/burnt-orange-sofa-trend-36717729 warm white and blue walls both look great here

TolkiensFallow · 01/02/2023 20:34

Farrow and ball inch yea blue is lovely. It’s a deep bluey greeny grey and would go well with those colours.

TolkiensFallow · 01/02/2023 20:35

Oooops. Corrective text issue!
f&B inchyra blue!

TheLastDreamOfTheOak · 01/02/2023 21:11

Im going to get testers of inchyra blue, green smoke and maybe a navy of some sort tomorrow morning and then make a final decision.
I'm usually good at this stuff, but we haven't lived in the house since July (we had a big house fire and it's taken that long to make it habitable) so I just can't seem to visualise it very well!

Try Stiffkey Blue too, we’ve got that with the Parma Gray and it’s gorgeous.

superdupernova · 02/02/2023 17:22

I love Crown midnight navy. It's dark but has a bright blue tone to it.

JaninaDuszejko · 03/02/2023 13:03

That's the same as my MIL's lounge. It's lovely and bright. You should go for cooler colours because the evening sunlight is very warm and yellows up anything warm.

It's not my personal taste (the contrast is too much for me) but an orange sofa plus navy walls is very fashionable and feels luxurious. I have my burnt orange sofa in our playroom/family room which is a west facing room painted brilliant white.
