We have a 1970s sun lounge type extension at the back of our house. Half brick, half glass on all 3 sides.
It's so cold in the winter, it really needs some thick curtains. But here's all my questions.
The windows are so long that I'm worried there will be too much fabric hanging at the sides when they are open during the day. I recognise there's not much I can do about this though. There is an ancient rail up there for pencil pleat curtains but am I right in thinking that different styles use different widths of material? The two sides are 2.75m long. The windows along the back are 4.8m long.
Thermal linings- worth it? Or not? Do you think thermal linings with a thinner curtain fabric would look better when open than thicker fabric? Would they keep the same amount of heat in for less bulk at the sides?
On one side we've got 2 windows then a door. Do I get separate curtains on that side for the windows then a full length curtain for the door? We do have blinds so the door would be covered, but would it look weird to have half the door not covered by a curtain?
The cost! They are also a weird drop, ideally I'd want them 158cm but the nearest standard size seems to be 168cm. I could make them, I've done that before, But there's so much material I don't think I could face it. Or they could just be 10cm too long and cover the tops of the radiators. I guess that would affect the heat coming out of the radiators?
The room is open plan to the rest of our downstairs so we can't just shut the door and ignore it till summer. And we can't knock down and rebuild something more sensible either.
Maybe it's easier to just be cold until spring. Then it gets boiling.
