Do you think they look naff?! Or not necessarily?!

We we’re bought a pair as a wedding gift. They are lovely on your bare feet but just a weird -dare I say ugly?-thing to have on your floor.
We sent them to the charity shop in the end.

I’ve just googled to see if they now miraculously look amazing but I suppose there’s only so much you can do with that sort of size/shape.
Sorry, I’d personally avoid but if you like them then it’s no one else’s business.

I think in the right house with the right decor (modern/industrial vintage / Scandi) they can look great but in a tired semi in Barking, they can look a bit 'Doreen's boudoir.'

Aparecium · 21/09/2023 18:24

They're gorgeous to walk on barefoot. Unfortunately they only stay gorgeous if you don't walk on them!

TakeMe2Insanity · 21/09/2023 18:25

We have wooden floors and have a couple. They are lovely to feel underfoot. No, Doreen’s boudoir look going on here.

Wednesdaysotherchild · 21/09/2023 18:26

Hate them and cow rugs - seems off/grim/morbid/disrespectful walking on someone’s dead skin. Skin that belonged to a living creature that felt things and had its life taken from it.

SwedishEdith · 21/09/2023 18:30

They're great until you need to clean them.

Wallywobbles · 21/09/2023 18:31

They are better than a blow up mattes if you have to sleep on the floor.

bombastix · 21/09/2023 18:31

I like but a right fag to clean; anyone got a good method?

Samsonsmum · 21/09/2023 18:32

Fabulous - as long as the sheep isn't still attached

Whyohwhyohwhy123 · 21/09/2023 18:32

I think they make sense as a part of using every part of animal. It’s more disrespectful to waste part. Not really different to using leather for shoes or bags.
they are difficult to keep looking good though

Wallywobbles · 21/09/2023 18:33

Most of our are still on their original owners.

Celticdawn5 · 21/09/2023 18:38

Awful.
certainly not necessary.
horrible memories of sheepskin rugs over the back of armchairs and sofa growing up.
I hate to think what might be living in them and I dislike the feel of them.
I don’t even like the ones for babies

herculepoirotsmoustache · 21/09/2023 18:40

Have a few but never used it as a rug. Ours are slung over the backs of sofas to make them extra warm and comfy or on the seats of wooden chairs. They are really insulating and great to sit or lie on if you feel the cold

herculepoirotsmoustache · 21/09/2023 18:41

I don’t think @Celticdawn5 would like our house 🫣

TheChosenTwo · 21/09/2023 18:41

Don’t like them personally, think they’re a bit naff/dated. They do feel nice underfoot though thinking back to when a relative used to have them. Also, never seen a sheep look fluffy, they always look woolly and a bit manky to me 😂
a friend has one of those cow hide ones, don’t like that either and that one doesn’t even feel nice underfoot.

1990s · 21/09/2023 18:43

Wash them in a washing machine on delicate, then brush them with a brush to fluff back up. Good as new.

caramond · 21/09/2023 18:47

I'd be worried about moths... (the same reason I avoid wool carpets).

Thank you

SOOO cosy, soft, tactile.

I understand why vegetarians & vegans would hate them, but sheep typically have nicer lives than the pigs and poultry, and at least that way every bit if the animal is used.

catsnore · 21/09/2023 19:19

IKEA do some sheepskin rugs made from recycled plastic bottles or something like that! They are super soft and machine washable I believe. Got one by my bed, it's so lovely to put your feet on it!

Yurii · 05/01/2024 16:03

I like the sheepskin rug. There are several reasons for that. Firstly, it's a great addition to the decor of the house. And secondly, it's like a foot warmer. But not just for your feet, it's nice to lie or sit on. I often lie on it, put a pillow under my head and read a book. It keeps the heat in. By the way, if anyone is interested, here is the link Light Brown Sheepskin Rug
And by the way, it's not expensive, it's only £130. While I've seen similar carpets on the internet selling for 250-300 pounds and more.
All in all, I'm happy with the choice. But of course it is like any other decorative object so it needs care. I have a special brush, which costs only £8, which helps to keep it looking its best.
