Can you help solve my Sofa Dilemma?

How do I go about buying sofas with confidence that they will actually be able to be delivered into my property?!

I need to replace my current tatty and falling apart sofas. Probably going for a 3- and a 2-seater.

It's a townhouse style property so they have to be carried up a flight of stairs, then a sharp, tight 90-degree angle at the top of the stairwell through a door into the living area of the house. So big chunky styles are out. Modular options seem really expensive and not as attractive as a contemporary stand-alone sofa.

I have a tight budget and will probably have to go to one of the DFS-type places. Especially if it can be bought on some zero interest option. I visited a couple of these places today and just got depressed!

I just don't really know what options I've got.

Signposting and bright ideas welcome!

Any decent delivery team would get a sofa in. Look for one on legs that can be removed and nothing too deep front to back. It should go in on its end up the stairs, so measure floor to ceiling what height you've got there.

That's reassuring @Badger1970 and good tip on the height point.

Bigger sofas usually come in separate halves and are often easier to manoeuvre than a 2/3 seater standard sofa .

WandaWonder · 12/12/2022 21:41

Measure the doorway/s as well

ChristmasCakeAndStilton · 12/12/2022 21:49

Your current sofas went in, so start with measuring the larger of those. Because something that size will fit.

Our sofas went in and out of the old house no issue. The 3 seater needed to be sawn in half to get it into the new house..... there are ways to get larger sofas into houses!

FestivePinkFairy · 12/12/2022 22:01

IKEA! Sofas come flat packed.

MissyB1 · 12/12/2022 22:08

The advantage of dfs is they will take your old sofas away.

PatsyJStone · 12/12/2022 23:15

Don't rely on a good delivery team, they can't perform miracles. I've known people take windows out and get tractors to lift sofas up in a town house.
Measure it well and check your route through the house

Next used to do good quality sofas but not sure if they still do ad I’ve still got mine 15 years later!

Roundandroundthegarden0 · 12/12/2022 23:20

DFS charge 20% of the sofa cost if you buy it then can’t get it in so depending on how much you spend it could be a bit of a gamble.

KnickerlessParsons · 12/12/2022 23:23

Sofology brought our sofas right in and assembled them.

I wa going to suggest Swyft too! There’s another company around who do similar stuff but can’t remember the name at the moment.

Snug?

We don't have one but considered getting one for our kitchen last year.

At our previous house (an old, three storey place) our removal guys had to lift the contemporary three seater chesterfield up onto a first floor balcony to get it into the main bedroom. Curiously, when we sold that house three years later, it was brought out down the stairs with no issues 🙄

Try Nabru.
UK made, small business. Modular, really great value, design your own sofa to fit any space, washable covers, honestly amazing. They even have fitted them in narrow boats and caravans as they are modular.

We have just bought our second sofa from them in a year. They also have next day delivery on all orders! 😍 Nabru sofas
Fab to find a UK manufacturer, I don’t work for them, just a very happy customer.

Thanks everyone for the sensible and creative thinking! Still looking around but with more confidence thanks to the advice here, and now waiting for festive sales to start!

2 seaters are likely to be able go through a door vertically.
