Quirky Wall Art Ideas

Anyone any thoughts on unusual art/ wall art for my house? I like quirky; something that means something, is a conversation starter or has a story behind it. But, not over £100, unless it's super amazing!
(I have lots of my kids art and artwork by family members hanging in the house already, I just don't want any more. Don't judge me!)

I have a bunch of stuff on the walls, nothing very expensive but a mix of prints and originals, that came from:

  • a local street art sale
  • local galleries
  • artists I found on instagram (browsing hashtags relating to mediums I like (e.g. watercolour) or from the 'explore' page after following local artists)
  • A tile I bought from a museum on holiday one year
  • an 'arty' photograph of me doing a hobby that was taken by chance one day

I like art relating to places I've been or that are important to me, whether thats art thats come from there, depicts something that's there, or somehow reminds me of the place. I have one print that evokes what I want from my life, and another that symbolises the early stages of my relationship. One thing is something that belonged to my parents. Some things I just think are beautiful and/or interesting.

I have baskets on my wall. Something like this. I have mine on an exposed brick wall. You can get sets on Etsy around your budget.

I got my DH this for an anniversary years ago song sound wave (mine wasn't from Not on the High Street but its the same idea) it's above our record player/music area and is always a conversation starter :)

Have a look at Print Club London. Loads of great affordable prints and original artwork.

A colleague recently recommended this to me - ohlavachestudio.co.uk/

I like fabric pieces: I’ve hung an old silk scarf of my grandmother’s, a beautiful baby quilt I was made, and a vintage tapestry piece from Etsy.

I love this. This is just what I want. I haven't got a street art sale near me and can't really afford galleries (!) but I will check out insta for inspiration and something a little more eclectic.

When I said galleries that might have been a bit of a misnomer... I don't mean fancy galleries, more small art shops (that obviously will have stuff on the walls too). Often featuring local small-scale artists. They often have prints or limited edition prints for very affordable prices

Maps? Future Maps have unusual ones but most online art print shops have lots of different styles.

mynameiscalypso · 01/12/2022 12:42

I like Artfinder, you can set a range of prices and styles/mediums. I've picked up lots of interesting paintings and prints.

Art Finders great; we also have used MoonCats and Desenio for different prints and especially the quirky wall art.

GrimDamnFanjo · 04/12/2022 12:51

Plates?
I have a selection of blank and white mid century brands.
I also have an original tube map.
Museum posters?

I'm trying not to go down the gallery wall route. The insta ones look great but I think it would take me a very long time to get the look right!
