Loaf sofas

I would like some new sofas. Would you rate Loaf ones for quality? I have young children and am nervous of potential stains...do you know if they are easy to clean/have any kind of protection? Thanks

Anyone? Thanks

I have one and it’s…. Fine. I like it, but I’m not sure it’s worth the £££ compared to an ikea (or whatever) one.

Ours is clever velvet, and it does seem very hard wearing though.

Houseplantmad · 06/11/2022 21:37

Our friends bought two and they will happily admit they are the most uncomfortable sofas ever. I’d agree. They look lovely but are rock hard.

Teeheehee1579 · 06/11/2022 21:40

We have one (and 3 DC’s). I think the quality is awful - after 18 months it’s out of shape and looks worn. It’s stained (our fault!) which will never come out. We would never have one again. They look amazing in the show room but do not stand up to wear and tear in my view

NameChangeLifeChange · 06/11/2022 21:43

We have one and I love it! We have a clever velvet and paid for the castelan protection (think that’s what it is?) that covers for 5 years.

Its so comfy and looks gorgeous. despite not wanting one originally we went with a scatter back and it can look messy when out of place and not plumped up but with two minutes plumping it looks great.

However it’s in our ‘nice’ lounge and although the kids go on it it’s not our poor kitchen sofa which is covered in food, drink, wee on a bad day and whatever else they have. I’d have bought a cheapie for in there if getting a new sofa as it’s not worth it.

Bebabelouba · 06/11/2022 21:43

Clever velvet is amazing. Love our sofa. Very spendy but so worth it.

Luredbyapomegranate · 06/11/2022 21:43

I looked at loaf but too big for my room.

I got one from sofa.com which has been good

Haus1234 · 06/11/2022 21:45

We have one in clever woolly fabric - had it nearly a year, so far no stains but it’s a light colour so it’s a matter of time really … it’s really comfortable though and doesn’t look messy (chesterfield style back) and I generally love it.

Marshmallow12345 · 06/11/2022 21:47

I thought they looked so nice online but when I went to showroom they were not that comfy and really too deep. We went for snug instead and it's been great

luciaann · 06/11/2022 21:51

We have a loaf sofa and love seat thing.

One is a dark green clever velvet and is brilliant
The sofa is clean green- now called cooking apple and is a nightmare to keep clean.

We have the castlean insurance and they sent this liquid that took the colour off the fabric.

Any time I put any water on to wash the colour comes off.

And you have to plump the pillows constantly.

I wouldn't bother

My brother just got one from a John Pye auction. It cost 350 quid and should have been about 3 grand. It had a slight scuff on it but other than that it was fine. When we collected it there were loads of other Loaf sofas there. Have a look at their auctions online.

OldWivesTale · 06/11/2022 21:59

But as PP said, they look lovely, beautiful actually but not especially comfy. I prefer my IKEA Ektorp for comfort and practicality.

RNBrie · 06/11/2022 22:00

We have a loaf sofa in our kitchen/diner and I love it. Two years old now, Teal clever velvet, paid extra for the insurance. DH accidentally shut the cat in the kitchen overnight and she peed on the sofa (I swear I nearly killed him, DH not the cat) but we washed the covers in the machine (against all advice) and they've come up just fine so I'm delighted.

I love the way it looks and it's very comfy for a small sofa (I can fall asleep on it in nanoseconds)

But when we replaced our much larger TV room sofa, we didn't really consider Loaf. I didn't care so much what it looked like as it's just in the kids room so it wasn't worth the extra cost. Bought a giant L shaped sofa from furniture village which everyone loves.

tootiefruitie6 · 06/11/2022 22:01

Thanks all, that's really helpful. I think I might have a look in sofa.com and see if I can get the loaf look but more comfortable.

They've got quite a few in the Marchington auction house. Not sure about elsewhere.

freckles20 · 06/11/2022 22:19

Just a heads up for anyone considering the Johnathon Pye auctions.

The price that you bid is ex VAT so 20% VAT is added, and an additional separate processing fee of 20%. So you actually pay your bid plus 40% if you win.

It is also very much Buyer beware as they don't tend to offer any kind of description, or have any obligation to photograph or mention defects. Some auctions allow viewings prior to bidding, others don't.

Some of the actions are delivery only, and the delivery costs are pretty hefty.

There are definitely some bargains to be had. But it is worth knowing about this stuff so you don't get burned (like I did 😬).

OldWivesTale · 06/11/2022 23:13

Yes, it's definitely advisable to view before you bid as there are sometimes marks on the furniture.

Thesehills · 07/11/2022 07:07

We have just bought the Wodge sofa and the Bear Hug love chair, both in clever velvet.

I agree, Loaf sofas look lovely online, but in the show room most were not as comfy as they looked, a bit deep.

The Wodge we loved.

Very happy!

mynameiscalypso · 07/11/2022 07:11

Useful thread, thanks for starting OP! I've also been tempted by Loaf (partly because they sent us a sachet of hot chocolate with some samples and I'm easily bought). I do love the look of their sofas but I tried them in one of the shops and couldn't quite see how I'd get comfy on them plus I think they look better in pics than in real life. I think we're going to go for snug instead although M&S have some nice sofas at the moment.

Answerthedoor · 08/11/2022 15:15

Went to the showroom - some of the sofas looked past their best - the sales person suggested a fluff up - they still looked bloody awful, she mumbled something about a new cushion filling - wasn't clear whether she meant this was the old one or the new one. We ended up getting an Ikea sofa - and I'm so glad - it's been christened with a few glasses of wine already and a drunken teenager being sick - thank god - we didn't pay for a Loaf sofa!

Thanks for the update @Answerthedoor, that is really helpful.

Glad you got a sofa that you're happy with and that it has been well christened this evening!

Definitely food for thought wrt Loaf.com.

Twinsgranny · 10/11/2022 00:24

Re the Loaf sofas I love the idea of the Clever Velvet. But, do the seat cushions need a lot of plumping? I hate doing that.

sellotape12 · 26/11/2023 20:22

Ha I found this old thread and want to say that whilst we love our Loaf sofa (squishmeister) for being hard wearing it’s NOT comfy. We got sucked in in the shop, because it’s like a bed. But they’re really hard to watch tv on as they’re so deep and low backed. It always needs plumping too as it looks messy otherwise. We have to push cushions behind our head to get some neck support. Whoops. Not worth the £ imo

annointing · 23/06/2025 21:18

i have just bought a second hand loaf truffle sofa bed which was not cheap
i have not taken delivery yet but wondered if anyone else had one and is the sofa comfortable
