Could this old sideboard be stripped?

I’ve spotted this sideboard on my local Facebook Marketplace and like the shape but not the dark brown colour. Does anyone know what wood it could be and if it would be worth stripping then waxing or clear varnishing? I definitely wouldn’t want to paint it.

It would depend if it is solid or veneer. Veneer, especially elderly, can lift or bubble if it reacts to the strong chemicals used in strippers.

Why do you want to strip it? You would have to re Polish or it would be raw wood and quite unattractive. If you think it is dirty and over polished, you could just remove the Polish with surgical spirit.

I have stripped furniture, probably oak or walnut, issue is if it’s not solid and any parts are veneer. It’s not difficult but it’s quite time consuming. I sand and use meths and wire wool, I haven’t done chemical stripping. How much is it on for?

Just realised how poor quality the last photo was. It’s described as in fair condition and looking at this photo, there looks to be some marks on the top (although it could just be dirt). It’s only £60 so it might be worth a gamble.

So would surgical spirit be the best thing just to clean it up. Better quality photo attached.

Have you an idea of age? If it's post-war utility furniture (it has that look) expect it to be very cheaply made and may not survive stripping.

@DogInATent it doesn’t say but judging by its shape I assume 1940s.

Oh god, it's beautiful, it would be savage of you to strip it
