Which type of blinds would be best for my window?

Snappy title or what? We’ve moved into a bungalow that has quite a large front window. I like that it lets in lots of light and has a nice view of the front garden ( fairly small ) and trees opposite. I don’t like that people walking past can see right into the house. We have curtains for evening, but I think we need some type of blind too to provide a bit of privacy during the day. I’m just not sure which type would be best. The other houses on the street mainly have the vertical type, but I’m not a fan of those. I was thinking perhaps the Venetian style with tapes, but will they still let light in and will I still have a view? Ideally I’d also like something we can fit ourselves to try and keep costs down.
I've only used net curtains or roller blinds in the past so any advice is most welcome!

Have a look at "magic screen" roller blinds, if you google them lots of companies do them. You can see out but folk can't see in. At night the effect is reversed as it depends where the light is coming from but as you have curtains it wouldn't be a problem.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page on this link and it will show you privacy view on different levels of openess. www.orderblinds.co.uk/dept/sunscreen-solar-blinds_d0181.htm

Day and night blinds. When closed you’d think they were normal blinds, when open the mid section is voile and gives privacy

Thank you both! They are options I hadn’t considered so will look into them.

I have those day night blinds and they are great, let lots of light in but also private when closed. Lots of neighbours have mentioned how nice they look. Bit of a faff fitting them, but just make sure you measure correctly 😁

I guess you can also roll them right up if you wanted to? Will have to check out some fitting videos as I’m not very handy and DP is very short tempered….

Have you considered painted wooden shutters? Light plus privacy and they look fab.

They do look great, but I’m not sure if better suited to period properties than 1960’s bungalows? And possibly quite expensive?

I've got day and night blinds and I'm very pleased with them. Basically they are a roller blind with two layers that you can adjust to let in light or keep your privacy. You can roll them right up if you wish too.

They weren't as expensive as I'd feared, but you do have to get the measuring just right - we paid someone to fit them as it wasn't much more money and gave us the confidence that the blinds would definitely fit! I don't think it's a difficult diy job though if you prefer.

Thanks, I think I would look into getting them fitted then as have had disasters with roller blinds in the past!
