Can I teach myself to wallpaper by watching YouTube

So I'm decorating my living room, usually my dad does any wallpapering I need doing but I want ti have a bash at it myself.
Will watching YouTube videos help me?
DP is useless at DIY so he can't wallpaper although he's willing to learn. I'm scared of making a mess of it though.
How easy is it?

Of course you can! Maybe avoid anything with a tricky pattern that needs to be matched up for your first attempt though.

Wallpapering is really not that hard. Maybe get your dad to teach you if he is good at it and also the patient kind!

Yeah, it’s so able, and matching the repeat is satisfying.

I think sometimes you need more than one pair of hands occasionally.

Thanks everyone, I'm on YouTube now

You can do it- get wallpaper that is easy to hang/match and always paste the paper even when it is 'Paste the wall' paper. A good brush to smooth was the best buy- met a decorator in Screwfix who told me to do that. Do it in good light and if someone will labour for you it is much easier. Enjoy and show us your work!

Depends on whether you’re the sort of person who is good with practical/dexterous tasks. I’ve tried and botched it but I’m generally poor at those sorts of things. Maybe practise with a cheap roll first?

We had to teach ourselves to wallpaper with just a brief instruction sheet. It’s not difficult.

@cantthinkofabetterusername how did you get on? I'm in a similar situation to you and was wondering if you could recommend any YouTube videos or any tips that you picked up as you went. Thanks

Definitely, get good quality wallpaper and like a PP said, 2 pairs of hands if possible.

Yes I learnt. Not from YouTube but my mum taught me and by the second piece I did the rest. It was a mural as well so quite technical. And we had to cut out for a picture rail. And by the end I was appliquéing bits on to patch up a monkey head that got decapitated in the picture rail.

It is really easy. But you need the tools and good quality paste the wall paper (although don’t paste the wall!) - makes no sense I know.

You need a paper table,
a plumb line to start the first strip straight. Don’t trust the wall!
variety of good scissors - long and smaller.
Really sharp Stanley knife.
A little roller wallpaper roller for pressing the seams.
Soft brush
Bucket
Paste the wall paste
A kind of pizza cutter type thing for the skirting and ceiling - but I found the old blunt one was better so you can run along to make a crease without actually cutting or tearing. Alternatively a ruler might work here.
Ruler for smoothing in and cutting the last edge to the corner of the wall.
Tea towels for smoothing and removing bubbles.
Wet rag for cleaning hands and tools.

Take your time. You do not need to rush. Hands really should be clean and dry each new strip. We did ours nearly 2 months ago and the paste is still not dry in the bucket! I know lazy but it’s become a bit of an experiment now. 🤣

A vertical stripe wallpaper is good for first attempt as it’s easy to match and very forgiving on the joins.

Get a plum line to ensure first drop is perfectly true vertically - further drops hang straight down due to gravity so easier to hang each when all are perfectly vertical.

Always paste the paper not the wall even for pastes/papers that say paste the wall.

Start in furthest corner of room and work back to the door
