Struggling to decorate small (but high ceilinged) toilet room

It's the one toilet that most people will visit...

I'm not a fan of grey.

There's no window (there is a fan!), just a sink and a toilet - no space for anything else. The ceilings are really high. The walls are plasterboard - it was built as an addition, rather than an original feature of the house

I think I should get a mirror opposite the door, but I'm stuck for a colour/ style.

Any ideas?

How can I put this....men may see themselves and get distracted by the stunning image in the mirror...

Go dark, very dark like a deep navy or forest green or jewel colours. Brass taps and towel / loo roll holders.

small rooms with little to no natural light don’t look any brighter for being painted white, they just look dingy and cold.

Feature wallpapers are perfect for this. Try Harlequin, Linwood, Colefax & Fowler. You may only need one roll as quite a lot are wide width.

And do the woodwork in a dark contrast. I think small rooms need to be dramatic and a statement, not just white or grey to make them look bigger. They just look bland IMO.

You can bring a high ceiling ‘down’ by painting the ceiling and a band ( usually about a sixth to a quarter of the total) of the same colour around the walls.

We've just had our windowless downstairs loo done and went slightly different with patterned tiles rather than walls. Still need to find a new mirror and something bigger for the alcove, but pretty happy with it!

I am not sure I would like to look at myself sitting on a toilet.

Two weeks ago, I visited a friend in Amsterdam, and she has the smallest toilet ever and on the door, there isa birthday calendar taking the whole length. Next to each day there is an empty space with a few names here and there. It looked nice and it made me happy to see my name written on it!

She also has psychedelic wallpaper which made the toilet look bigger.

That’s a Dutch thing, every Dutch house I’ve ever been in has a birthday calendar hanging off the downstairs loo door. Yup, I have one too 😂😂

I agree with another poster - either put in a picture rail or an illusory one by painting the wall colour only up to where a picture rail would be, and leave the area above white (or whatever your ceiling colour is).

@BuddhaAtSea is it? So funny and to be honest, brilliant idea !

Definitely divide the wall height somehow. Either picture rail or dado rail height. You could paint below the rail or tile or beadboard depending on your budget/style. Then paint or wallpaper in something different above. This will help widen the room rather than seeming like a tall thin column.

Recommend using eggshell paint, it wipes clean and reflects light around.

Personally I would tile or beadboard the lower half in a pale colour and then paint the upper half in a strong colour. (Or wallpaper, I’m not a wallpaper person myself).

I would put a large mirror over the sink. Not over the loo. You could hang a large print over the loo however - if it’s framed and behind glass that will also reflect light without being as distracting as a mirror over the loo.

I love this: www.wallsauce.com/wall-murals-wallpaper/decadent-feather-print
They have loads of choice though.

I agree with perhaps breaking up the wall height with some panelling maybe? And doing a really patterned wall paper above. Maybe Timerous Beastie or something similar. Like this....
