Bathroom fixings, black or chrome?

We’re thinking of having the bathroom done, after many, many years of talking about it!

We were in agreement of having black fixings, so back taps, radiator, shower etc, but we’ve heard they scratch very easily & look rubbish very quickly. He’s all for chrome now, which wasn’t what I envisioned! All I can see is rust!

So for those of you that have black bathroom fixings - what’s been your experience? We live in a soft water area if that makes any difference!

I think black is very contemporary & will dare very quickly.

I like black, but agree it will date. I have chrome in my bathroom, I don’t have any rust. Just make sure you buy reasonable quality.

I wouldn’t go for black. I recently stayed in a very trendy newly built hotel (new as in the last three years where it was closed for COVID lockdowns for part of the time). The black fittings in the bathrooms were already looking tatty.

What about gold?

AtillatheHun · 27/09/2022 11:08

If you can find brushed nickel at a reasonable price, that’s what I’d do. In reality, am doing chrome as it’s hard to find and £££, plus easier to match light switches etc etc

I think it depends on the style of your house as to whether black or chrome would look best. black fittings do look good but i'm not sure I've ever seen a rusty chrome tap?!

I just really liked the black fixings look.
I don’t know how chrome would work with the idea we have in mind, although it’s fairly minimal style. The fixings we have at the moment apart from the taps has gone all rusty & look awful.

I might look at gold & I’ve also seen copper too so I’m going to look at those. Brushed nickel sounds like it might be an option as well. Lots to look at! Thanks everyone.

Black is trendy but will date horribly. Chrome if good quality will not rust.
