help with quartz for kitchen worktops

I just cant choose what worktop. Anyone used totally plain white and happy with it or does it show every single speck?

I was looking at a sparkly speckled effect but now thinking it looks too much with existing splashback inside the chimney breast.

I dont like marble effects as i will need several joins and it really shows the joins as the designs dont match and dont like the grey tones.

Any suggestions welcome.

I have bright white quartz worktops with bold but fine grey veins, much of the white parts have little veining. The worktops are a breeze to clean and any marks have always come out easily. Good suppliers/fitters should match up and pattern, that’s part of what you pay a small fortune for.

I have bright white quartz and it's gorgeous!

Best advice is to get it from a stonemason rather than your kitchen supplier. Chances are you won't get joins then as they can make the worktop to fit your space.

We got an amazing deal as we went in and asked for white. They'd just finished a huge corporate job and had lots left over. It's beautiful quartz and we got it at a fraction of the price.

They fitted our utility room for free and gave up free upstands for the back.

They told us to go for Italian rather than Chinese. The Chinese stuff has more resin and can stain.

Our one is still beautiful and we take care of it.

oakworktop · 17/09/2022 14:50

Thank you. My kitchen is already fitted so I can source the worktop anywhere.

I was considering Gemini worktops as so many people seem to recommend them but seeing their prices I presume they must be from China.

How would you not get joins. Would the lengths not be max 3.2m or so?

They order huge slabs of the quartz. Our island is a single piece despite being 2 units by 6.

We had a join around a corner in the utility but I didn't mind that.

oakworktop · 17/09/2022 16:28

Thanks but my work top run is 7.7m so must surely need joins and also at the corners but i will ask

What ever you do don't get black. We had a shiny black granite worktop and it showed every speck of dust. As soon as it was dry after wiping dust would appear.

oakworktop · 17/09/2022 21:07

Yes no plans for black. Any other thoughts?

What colour are your units, OP?

I have Silestone Crema Stellar, which is a creamy, sandy speckled one, with just a tiny bit of sparkle - very subtle and not at all OTT, no grey tones. Its very neutral and the speckle is small and regular, so it looks quite understated, without being dull. I absolutely love it to bits.

oakworktop · 18/09/2022 11:23

Thanks. Kitchen is bespoke so can be painted any colour. Tiles in chimney are patterned. Butler sink is white so worktop needs to look ok next to the sink.

We just had a new kitchen put in and chose a quartz worktop that was slightly off white and had a very small amount of pale grey veining in it. It's just enough to add interest and not be completely plain and boring, but also not too obvious where the joins are either. We ordered it directly from the manufacturer, they installed it and did a good job of matching up the sections.

I'm not in the UK so can't advise on suppliers, but this is the quartz we used in case it helps with inspiration. Our cabinetry is designed to match, it's white with a hint of grey (so it looks almost white but not quite):

A good fitter will do the joins subtly e.g. around hob.

Bemoreatticus · 18/09/2022 12:00

I have white quartz with very faint subtle veins. In a showroom, compare the white quartz choices against an A4 sheet of paper. Most have a grey or cream tone. We went for the whitest to contrast grey cabinets. You can't avoid a join in a long run. We are happy with ours. Pattern match is excellent.

Fleur405 · 18/09/2022 12:06

Yes we have a long worktop and the join is in the middle of the hob so you barely notice. Ours is white though with very light grey marbling so pattern matching wasn’t really an issue.

We’re having fugen avalanche against cabinets painted in F&B railings, from a local supplier

Are you able to tell me which quartz worktop you went with please. Finding it very hard to choose. I want a clean white with faint marbling/veins.

I have Gemini's Capri. It has subtle grey marveling, but you hardly notice that. It looks very white. It's certainly good value and I found the company good to deal with. There is 1 joint around the corner, where it goes L shaped, and 1 joint behind the sink. They probably could do your island in 1 piece if it was possible to carry it in, which would be the biggest problem. But if anything, slight marveling makes the joints less obviously, imo.

Actually, no, there is no joint behind the taps, that's in the utility. So it's mainly about the space they have to carry things in that determines how long a slab can be.

NellyBarney · 19/10/2023 18:16

My island is 240cm by 130cm and they could turn in the garden and bring it through the garden door. I assume you need a 360cm long worktop. If you have patio doors and a streight corridor from the entrance, it might be possible to get it in 1 piece.

EnoughIsay · 20/10/2023 15:11

We have white quartz - 7.3mts. There is a join but it fades away. There is a slight grey vein. It is wonderful to work on, beautiful to touch, cleans very easily, and looks lovely day and night.

The cabinets /drawers underneath are Hunter Green F&B. Warm and cozy in the winter, light and cool in the summer.
