Table cloths to protect wooden table

We have just bought a lovely wooden table which I want to keep looking lovely, but have a 3 year old who will be spilling her dinner and doing crafts, painting etc on it.
Looking at table cloths, will the wipe clean type in John Lewis/Next be enough to withstand this or do I need to go for oilcloth? Will oilcloth alone be enough to prevent stains seeping through or do I need a table protector for under it too?
We have had a glass table previously which was so easy to wipe mess off but got fed up of the finger marks.

A wipeable left one is enough but wood needs to breathe so remove it when you aren’t crafting. Wood can be wiped if dinner is split, you mainly get water marks from not wiping up straight away. I used to use large wipeable place mats for my children.

I ruined a table when I split glass paint on oil cloth table cloth. I went to Dunelm and now and got a couple of meters of their waterproof fabric and then cut to fit. They have loads of options and the one I liked was on sale so it was only a couple of quid. I think John Lewis do similar. Looks nice and completely protects the table

I've had them for years (mine are teens now but still have it on most of the time). I used this company www.onlyoilcloths.co.uk.

We just got a couple of nice, reasonably priced ones from Jolee tablecloths. Oilcloth ones, gorgeous patterns.

We used to have a cushioned mat thing so the table was protected from pen indents by over-heavy writers too (you know the way kids like to write with such force the nib breaks). I have no idea what words to use to describe it though. It was a thick layer of sort of woollen webbing then a plastic layer on top that could be wiped clean. Then a nice tablecloth over the top sometimes for meals.

I have a wipe clean PVC type one and when my dd does any crafts or colouring, I bought a glass worktop saver thingie. It works perfectly.

We have this. It's made to measure.
