Air con in the bedrooms

I’ve seen a few people with air con in the bedroom and wondered if that’s a thing here now (UK), my dog would love it.
Just wondered if anyone has had it fitted and if it’s messy to fit ?

We have a portable one. You just stick the tube out the window and it’s ready to go. It’s a real life saver in this weather.

I bought a portable tower one and it was fine at first, but crap this year. It’s not going back in the loft.

It’s crazy. In portugal I can buy an air con unit for £450 including fitting to supply hot
and cold air on demand. In the U.K. it is nearer £5000 per unit. Why?

Check the filters, especially if you have pets. You'll need to open it up. Ours stopped working but the filters were totally clogged with hair and fluff. Once we cleaned it out it was working like new again.

I don’t know how to ! I’ll Google it.

I didn't pay that much, about £1100. Our walls are very thick and it took hours to drill through. In the end we replaced the carpet but it probably could have been professionally cleaned. The outside unit is ugly as hell. But it's brilliant and makes the room useable. Wish it wasn't so ugly outside or I would put in more rooms

We have it in the bedrooms. Its 100% worth it. It wasn’t that messy to fit at all. Ours were about £2k each. We didn’t do all the bedrooms at once so it was spread

We have it in all our bedrooms and living room (2 dogs and 2 cats) over the last couple of years. It is an investment but to us it was worth it. I believe that the climate is changing and the summers would get hotter. We only use it when really necessary - i.e. quite a lot at the moment 😉

I have air conditioning in my bedroom, as is common in Australia. If it's so expensive, worth buying reverse cycle, so it can be a heater, too.

If you're a contact lens wearer you might want to think about a ceiling fan instead, aircon gave me hellish dry eyes and I've never had that with a fan

EmmaH2022 · 14/08/2022 22:59

OP

You mention a tower air conditioner

So it has a hose venting outside? You're not talking about an air cooler are you?

Sorry if being dense.

i have a portable air con unit, it's good for the price. Getting actual air con will involve venting out the walls unless you get a water system.

No, it doesn’t have a hose to vent outside. Not sure what it is now !

OK, DH says he doesn’t want air con fitting to the house, so can anyone recommend a really good portable unit ?

I have an air conditioning unit in my room. It was ~£2,000. Absolutely worth it!
