Struggling with room layout in this bedroom

It’s 4.7 m by 2.4 m. Just can’t get it to look right. Door is at one end of a long wall and opens onto the long wall rather than over the corner. Would be tricky to change due to light switch. Window is at the far end on the short wall, to the left as you look at it rather than central.
Want to keep current furniture if possible. This is a double bed, wardrobe, narrow chest of drawers, tv unit and tv. Any suggestions?

Floor plan would help.

tootrueblue · 13/08/2022 14:01

You know the rules - we need a diagram! 😃

itbemay · 13/08/2022 14:05

Get rid of the TV! Best thing we did for a more aesthetically pleasing look.

Dahliasrule · 13/08/2022 14:07

We had the same with a door opining into room and not against wall. It wasn’t a huge job to get the light switch altered and well worth it in the long term.

Caspianberg · 13/08/2022 14:08

I would ditch tv unit, and wall mount above drawers. Should free up some floor space

SeaToSki · 13/08/2022 14:14

Switch the light switch for a programmable one with a remote. Attach the remote on the other side of the door. Flip the swing of the door.

And if the bed has a headboard, you can always angle it across a corner like they do in the tv programs

Tunus · 13/08/2022 15:48

Not sure my quality diagram adds anything but here goes

Also should have said that tv unit has two drawers in which are used for clothes as the chest of drawers is small. Plus a shelf which books are on. I’d love to lose the tv (don’t have one in my own room) but teenager would not be impressed!

Redixe storage needs so you can get rid of tv stand anf put tv on the wall instead

RandomMess · 13/08/2022 17:15

Personally I'd have the bed at right angles to the window. TV opposite the foot end of the bed.

Everything else at the end of the room where the door is.

Soontobe60 · 13/08/2022 17:17

That’s got to be the world’s least helpful diagram 😂
Drawers at the end along long wall, then bed, then wardrobe. TV on wall opposite bed.

Watchthesunrise · 13/08/2022 17:18

The tv unit has to go. You don't have room for it.

Could the two drawers in the tv unit instead be under the bed storage? Reduce some items or put them elsewhere if need be.

Watchthesunrise · 13/08/2022 17:19

Call that a diagram 😆?

AntlerRose · 13/08/2022 17:23

I adore the diagram. Thats my skill level too.

I cant quite imagine the room but would think if the window is off centre id be trying to keep a clear site line from the door to the window with no tall bits between them.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 13/08/2022 17:33

Bed sideways across the window (head to the right, less windowy side).

Small chest next to bed as bedside table. TV unit opposite.

Wardrobe on same side as small chest.

Should have space for a beanbag somewhere.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 13/08/2022 17:35

Also cut out shapes to scale to represent the furniture and you can play around with layout on your piece of paper/diagram.

MenaiMna · 13/08/2022 17:42

Wow what a diagram! Put the tall furniture so it's already behind you as you enter the room. Wall mount TV over dresser. Make the window wall more pleasing and symmetrical with drapery all the way across ceiling to floor. If you like a bold pattern that's your feature.

Alternatively as its only one person's room have only one nightstand to the left of the bed, keep TV on unit where I've placed it and the tall narrow dresser behind the chair on the window wall. Is it a teens room- should they have a desk? I always think if the furniture is good but well used and mismatched and youre not sentimentally attached get the right size stuff 2nd hand on fb and get rid of what doesn't work for you in the same way. Sustainable virtuous circle.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 13/08/2022 18:07

There won't be room to get past the bed if you have it in the middle. A double is 6'3" long (about 1.9m) and the room is 2.7m wide.

But it is to scale 🤣

yes @DisplayPurposesOnly the room is only 2.4 m wide so if the bed is in the middle it is pretty tight. It’s doable because my son goes over the bed rather than round it but it doesn’t look great

If you can do to scale, can you cut out tte furniture from a coloured sheet of paper, also to scale, and put them on as currently arranged.

What happens if you put a curtain rail across the whole wall to 'centralise" the window, and bed under it, feet towards the door. The room isnt really wide enough for the bed to go across.

RandomMess · 14/08/2022 10:24

The bed will look much better near the window.

Just have the curtain pole/rail the whole way across the wall and sweep it all to the right hand side when it's open. Some soft lush luxury looking curtains.

TV and the end of the bed either on the wall or some sort of unit.

Wardrobe and drawers and the door end. Possibly get some bedside cabinets to give the storage lost by ditching the TV cabinet.

By putting the wardrobe and drawers on the non-window sort wall it will help the room look shorter and wider and give lots of floor space that will make it look bigger.

AntlerRose · 14/08/2022 10:48

Yes randomess's plan is what i would go for too.

Tunus · 14/08/2022 12:27

These are some of the layouts he’s had. He quite likes the second one but I hate it (not my room though I suppose)
